At The Hospital Part 2

Diana sighed, lowering her hands interlocking her fingers. "How long do you have? It's a long story, Mr. Salvatore." Michael couldn't help but stare at Diana. "I actually don't have a family anymore. Except for my best friend Priscilla and Noah. My mother has always loved Allison and hated me. My father loved both of us but he passed away when we were 5." Michael frowned and blazing in his eyes was pain...for her when pools of tears were seen in those beautiful baby blue eyes. "My mother loves Allison because she's an exact copy of my mother's character. The type that parties, has a lot of boyfriends and yet they can easily do wonders in mathematical problems . Popular. I was always the opposite. I was shy. I only went to parties with friends I knew. I only had one other boyfriend besides Noah when I was 17. His name was Nick. My worst subject was Algebra." She glanced up at Michael. "What my mother hates most about me is the fact I look like her younger sister. Blonde hair, blue eyes. My mother was never a mother to me. You saw that. When I got my first period, I actually thought I was going to die. That's how much she neglected me." Diana realized it was taking Noah a really long time to bring her that 7 up soda. She noticed how Michael was staring at her. "Diana, what does that after do with yesterday?" He asked softly. He refused to remark on the first sign she was growing up. Although he was curious. Diana reached out and laid her hand over his. "I'm getting to that. The reason why it didn't work out with my first boyfriend is he broke up with me to be with her." As if seeing the question in his eyes about when her first period, Diana continued. "My grandmother was attentive and she explained everything. My Dad's mom." Michael understood. Allison had a jealously complex. "Whatever I have, she decides she wants it. My mother claims I took Noah from Allison." Michael had to roll his eyes at that one. "Allison wanted yours and Noah's attention yesterday and when you mentioned Isabel Bellini and started joking with me, she honesty couldn't handle it-" Diana taking a deep breath. "She always knew I was allergic to Shrimp." Diana told him at last. Michael's eyes widened at the news. "She tried to murder you." He acknowledged, whispering while entangling their fingers together. There was a moment of silence. In that time, there was an unwritten understanding. They crossed the line between boss and employee. They had become friends. Diana closed her eyes, remembering how scared she was and yet she knew she would be okay because of how fast Noah and Michael took charge of the situation. "I wanted to thank you, Michael." Michael gave her a boyish smile. "There's really no need, Diana." Diana smiled. "So is the office rumor true?" Michael stared at her with a puzzled expression on that handsome face of his. He smiled warmly. "What rumor?" He asked. Diana couldn't help but turn deep red. He grinned. "Well for you to blush like that it would have to be embarrassing." Diana looked at him and replied quickly, forcing herself to stop blushing "I know a lot of women in the office, and I'm certain wherever you go, notice you." Michael stopped smiling and looked her. All amusement was gone. While Diana was unconscious, he understood why it wouldn't work with any other woman. Diana was loyal and devoted to that boyfriend of hers. She was truly respectful. When Barbara, the mature woman in the office, couldn't keep up with the workload Diana stepped in. It didn't matter that she hadn't eaten. He was also well aware of her intelligence and integrity. She wouldn't have slapped him if she didn't have that. She was virtuous which is why her mother made that comment as if that quality was to be frowned upon. Not to mention the night Diana brought him home after his plastered state and watched over him. Diana continued. "Have you taken the pledge of celibacy?" Michael cleared his throat. Okay, he was surprised by that question. He arched his eyebrows, the lines on his forehead were seen as he took in her question. "It's just...it didn't feel right to me that caused me to stop the intimacy. Maybe it was with the wrong women." Diana rubbed her face under her eyes. "Oh God, I didn't mean to offend you or humiliate." He gave a huff and smiled. "Well, as your newly friend, let's balance it out. Is what your mother said true?" He inquired suddenly with crystal clear amusement in his voice. Diana stared at him. She looked down, the red tint on her cheeks again. "I just don't want to regret anything, you know. Noah is a great guy and he makes a great boyfriend but I made a vow that I would have to be engaged, at the very least, before I slept with a man." Michael understood, nodding his head. The woman he was searching for was right in front of him all along. Maybe it was best that he should have a contract wife. Diana was obviously happy with Noah. "Will Noah be looking after you when you get discharged?" Diana shook her head. "No, Priscilla and I share an apartment." Diana stared down at her hands as she saw a confused look in his eyes. "It's just he's busy with work and-" Now he understood. She was making excuses for Noah. If he had a girl, he wouldn't care what meetings he missed. She would always be his first priority. Michael leaned back, crossing his arms. Diana could have sworn his eyes changed color a bit as he spoke. "I guess it's only fair that I should tell you about my family drama then. My Dad died when I was three from lung cancer. My mom soon remarried. I was only a kid when he started pounding on me like I was his punching bag. When I was 14, I was summoned to their house by my mother. I had my hands around his throat. I wanted to see the fear in his eyes. I wanted him to see what he put me through. My mother chose him and the daughter she had with him. Back when I was 8, I told my aunt what was going on, she came to get me." He declared. Diana could see the anger and hurt he still carried with him. "I stayed with my aunt until I left for college. To this day, I think of my aunt and uncle as my parents. Strange?" Michael asked suddenly. Diana put her hands up, her eyes in disbelief. "Michael, I'm so sorry." Michael just shrugged his shoulders. "Only my Aunt Michelle and Jason know what happened." Diana shook her head. "No, it's not strange at all." She whispered, her eyes never moved from his warm honey eyes. Diana, what made me tell you my past so easily? Diana averted her eyes to the floor. Michael questioned her with his eyes. "Noah went to get me a 7 up. You didn't see him on the way, did you?"
