Chapter 8 The Unseen Wish Elvin felt pleased to see Eve get into one of his shirts. He had the air of victory around him as he watched her button up. Her hair was still moist from the bath she just took, and he wanted her to sit her naked butt on his lap while he took in her scent. “So, how does victory feel?” Eve asked, turning sideways to look at him. She was struggling with one of the buttons. “Come, let me help you with that,” Elvin said. Eve released it and walked up to him, and Elvin could see her plump, juicy breasts, and the dotted points of her n*****s through his shirt. He helped her with the button. It was quite easy to fix, and when he looked up, he found her smiling at him. “You did that deliberately, didn’t you?” Elvin asked, watching her back away. Eve didn’t answer. Instead, she said, “Please, don’t let me get into one of your trousers. I don’t want to feel less sexy.” No. Elvin didn’t want that. He couldn’t lie that he needed her out of that dress, and on the bed with him deep inside her, but also, he needed to want to talk to her, to get to know her. He hoped Eve wanted the same thing. A little conversation, unless she had something to hide, which is probably why the s*x, and games were a perfect distraction for her to conceal things she didn’t wish to talk about, and keep their relationship on a totally mutual level. Eve checked herself out in the mirror. “I don’t look so bad,” she said, swaying from side to side. “So, can we talk?” Elvin asked. He needed her permission. Eve sighed as if to deflate the s****l tension. “Sure. What do you wish to talk about?” “Everything. If you’ll indulge me.” “Then, we’ll become friends, and start acting on morals?” She looked at him with an arched brow. “That wouldn’t be a bad thing? I mean, being your friend?” Eve returned her gaze to the mirror. “No, we can very well be friends. Hell, we can even be best friends if you want. After all, have you heard me speaking with anyone else for the past few days?” “No.” “Good. Then, we can be friends. But are you sure you wish to really talk?” “Yes.” *** He was resilient. Eve did give that to him. But sitting on the parlour sofa five minutes later, she knew the exact questions he would ask. Why was she at the bar? If she was in a relationship? Then she would do the same, and they would stir up feelings of guilt. Well, she could handle hers. What about him? After all, she had arranged all these. “Okay,” Eve said. “Conversations are questions and answers, right?” “That’s a survey,” Elvin asked. “A survey has options. In a conversation, questions are asked, and answers are provided.” “Fine.” Eve gave a single nod. “Good. You start.” “Okay. Seeing I first met you in a bar, what took you there?” Elvin asked. “Well, in truth, I was supposed to be at the restaurant across the road for a business meeting.” She had revealed the smallest part of it. Now, to distract him, she hoped he took the bait. “But I went to the bar across the road to numb the aching in my heart.” “What aching?” He took the bait. Best she dangles it again before him. “I met my fiance with a lady. They were boldly kissing before a hotel. It wasn’t a peck, or a brush of lips. It was an actual kiss, and it lingered quite a bit. He was seeing her into a cab and I just sat there at the back of my official car watching. It hurt. I was returning from the office when I saw them. That was a man I wanted to settle down with. And although my sister warned me about him, I thought he could change. I thought wrong.” Elvin wore a sad look. “I’m sorry.” “Thanks. It’s why I didn’t want to talk. I just wanted to forget. But such things do find a way to stick, so I was ready to seek every means to distract my mind from thinking about him. Work helped, but seeing couples and their pleasant gestures always do cause this trigger. I’ve been ignoring his calls. I don’t wish to talk to him.” But that wasn’t the origin, and Eve knew it. Elvin had dated Eve’s sister, Ann, and he had broken up with her over something Ann wouldn’t talk to Eve about. Eve had placed a bet with Ann that she would discover it at any cost and that was what she was here for, to get back at him for what he did to her. She wanted to destroy him, and make him never disrespect the name, O’Neal ever again. But first, she would discover what had led to it. “That’s why I didn’t want to talk,” Eve said. “I just wanted someone to take him off my mind.” All she had told him was a lie. His apology, however, was well appreciated. *** “Really, I’m sorry,” Elvin said, not sure a conversation was indeed a good idea. He thought his case was worse, but seeing what Eve had been through, he wished it could end now. “So, what about you?” Eve asked. And she had asked just when he didn’t think talking was a good idea. Well, she had answered his question. Now it was his turn to answer hers. “Mine is a bit silly,” Elvin said, not mentioning the fact it was embarrassing. He didn’t know how to begin, or how to say it. Maybe a drink would help. A drink would most definitely give him the courage to begin. And so he stood from the sofa. “Where are you going?” Eve asked. “I need a drink,” he said. “You want one?” “Sure,” she said, eying him. Elvin returned with a bottle of champagne and two glasses. He set the glasses down on the table while Eve watched him. He opened the bottle, tilted into the first glass, half filling it. He did the same to the other glass. He took one up and offered it to Eve, and she took it. He took up his and gulped everything down. He placed the glass down and poured himself another. Now, he was ready. But it was now a question of where to begin. Then he decided, anywhere would be fine.
