“After work” turned out to be 7:20 PM. The clock on the wall showed the time as a knock sounded at the door. An hour prior, Riley debated eating dinner without Glen but waited for his “friend.” That word still felt wrong when he said it. He could never think of Glen as a friend and nothing more. It didn’t matter now. Tonight, they would try to forget the intervening time and, at the very least, discover what the other had done with their life. With a smile firmly on his face, Riley opened the door and stepped aside so Glen could enter the apartment. “Hey Glen, good to see you. You want to come in for a minute while I get my stuff together?” He had nothing he needed to ready for the night but wanted to force Glen to wait for that fraction of a moment.
