I saw my mom angrily throw a brown envelope which I had seen with pastor Jerry earlier. Arrggghhhh She groaned angrily as she threw the brown envelope on the floor. The contents in the envelope flew out. It was bundles of money. She hit her desk angrily. I watched as she hit herself on the head over and over and over and I couldn't watch anymore. “what exactly is going on?” I wondered. I haven't seen her like this before. She had a mixed expression on her face. She looked both angry and scared at the same time. She clapped her hands in dismay and placed them on her head like someone who had just gotten into a deep mess. After watching her for a while I decided to go in. Immediately I opened the door, she quickly comported herself and acted as if nothing was happening. Her office was covered with the smell of mint. On the floor was clean currency notes. It was obviously a huge amount of money considering how fat the bundles were. My jaws dropped as I looked at the ground which was decorated with clean notes. I had never seen such an amount of money in my life. I was stunned. My mouth immediately became so dry like I've been walking in the desert for hours. I looked at my mom who gave a fake smile. “Mom, whose money is this ? I asked with a croaky voice. She cleared her throat and replied. “oh this is the money denoted by the church to help widows” she replied with a weak smile. “If this was a church donation to assist widows then was she angry?” I asked myself. Something in me was very sure that she was trying to hide something from me, but then what if she was angry because maybe the money reminded her of her late husband. I thought to myself. Without asking further questions I quickly bent down and started picking the bundles of money up. After a while my mum joined me in arranging the money. We didn't talk about it till the end of the day. I did not want to talk about it anymore because I felt talking about the money would bring back those painful memories and the thing I hate most was seeing my mom sad or angry. It was just me and her against the world and the least I wanted was for her to be sad or worried. Although I was curious about what secret my mom was trying so hard to hide from me, I didn't want to pressure her into telling me. I was willing to wait till she was ready. “Happy birthday to my beautiful superstar” I could hear my mom's voice echo from downstairs. I opened my eyes and looked at my room door. I yawned and stretched as I rolled over to the edge of my bed and picked up my phone. “christ! I'm late!” I jumped up and almost fell on my face as I rushed to the bathroom. “Happ-y” my mom stuttered as she walked into my room. She stood in shock and she could not believe her eyes. It was eight fifteen a m on a sunny Sunday morning and as usual she expected me to still be rolling on the bed knowing I had slept late the previous night so it was only fair for me to still be sleeping by that time. She wasn't expecting me to be up that early but to her greatest surprise, I was already in the bathroom. I rushed out with my towel tied to my chest like a mad woman being chased by a group of angry traders in the market. She looked at me still surprised at the way I was rushing to get dressed on a Sunday morning. I usually get up late on Sunday mornings and sometimes I don't even go to church while other times I go late but today was different. “lidi win” as she fondly calls me. “what's going on?” she asked with a more serious face. “Mom, remember pastor Jerry asked me to join the choir today” I replied. Although shocked that she would forget about something that important. “oh how could I forget something as important as that” my mom said with a rather mocking tone. It was obvious she remembered but for some reasons known to her, she just did not think I'll take it seriously. I turned and looked at her. She was already dressed and as usual she looked beautiful and elegant as always. “I made your favorite,” she said with a sweet smile on her face. “Mom please I really don't have time for breakfast” I replied as I hurriedly wore my outfit and began styling my hair “okay then I'll just cover it and put it in the fridge so you can microwave it when we get back from church” she said as she walked out of my room. After I was done with everything, I rushed downstairs and ran out of the house. “Wait for me, let's go together in my car,” my mom yelled after me. I stopped and she immediately came out of the house. We entered the car, she started the engine and we drove off. She looked at me and smiled “ I know you are nervous but trust me darling you're gonna do just fine lidi win” she said with a reassuring smile on her face. Hearing those words eased my tension a little bit. I smiled back and adjusted my seat belt. “thanks mom” I replied. “oh did I tell you Ryan is back and he is going to be in church today?” my mom added. “Wow Ryan is back?” I said excitedly. Ryan is the Bishop's only child. When we were little, everyone knew I had a crush on him and although I really liked him, we fought like we hated each other so we were fondly called husband and wife. He was very mean and arrogant. “i just hope he has changed” I said to myself.
