The sound of shattering glass echoed through the kitchen at seven in the morning.
Ivy froze halfway down the stairs.
A plate rolled dramatically across the floor.
A chair scraped.
Someone cursed.
Then came her mother's voice.
"Oh my God."
Ivy gasped.
"Finally. The human mountain has snapped."
She rushed downstairs, expecting murder, destruction, maybe a small earthquake.
Instead she found Asher standing motionless beside the kitchen counter.
Holding flowers.
A cake.
And a completely broken expression.
The room suddenly felt very quiet.
Even her mother stopped talking.
Even the family cat looked confused.
Ivy blinked.
Asher looked down at the smashed plate near his feet.
