For once, Dad turned the radio station down to speak to me with a beaming smile. “I’m so happy that you want to come with me to see Brett today. I told Dr. Braxon that he was being too harsh on him and that Brett apologized, but”—Dad shrugged—“you know how it is sometimes between parents and kids.”
