Chapter 11.2 : Sean POV : A Matchmaking Plan

s**t. s**t. s**t. I cursed repeatedly inside my head as I pulled the blanket over myself and curled my body tight beneath it. He kissed me again and again…! And why didn’t I pull away from him? Have I changed? I hugged myself, my fingers clutching the blanket tighter as I wrapped it around me. I hate this… It feels like this isn’t me anymore… “Gaaaah…!” I cried out and slammed myself face‑down onto the bed. Why can’t I stop thinking about him? I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to sleep… “Ugh… I can’t sleep…” I muttered in frustration. But then… A few minutes later, I finally drifted off to sleep. I woke up the next morning, jumped out slightly from bed and glanced at the clock. 5:00 AM... Still early—that was good. I wasn’t running late… so I still had time to make breakfast… Wonder if Caleb’s up yet? What time does he usually wake up? I opened the door and peered out. Everything was still quiet and dim… “Maybe he’s still asleep…” I murmured under my breath and stepped out of my room. “I hope there’s something here I can cook…” I said as I walked toward the kitchen and checked the fridge. My eyes traveled from top to bottom to see what was inside and what I could use. “Guess simple dishes will be fine…” I smiled and grabbed a tray of eggs, vacuum‑packed chicken, carrots, and an onion, one by one, then carried everything to the counter. I began preparing everything. Working step by step, started by chopping the onion, carrots, and chicken, then put them into a bowl. Next, whisked the eggs and poured them into a pan. Laid the meat and vegetables over the eggs and folded it over. “All done…!” My smile widened at the sight. I slid the food onto a plate, added some ketchup, arranged fresh broccoli beside it, and set it on the table. “Now I just need to shower and wake Caleb…” I nodded to myself, then headed back to my room. I took a quick bath, then went to wake Caleb… Knock… Knock… Knock…! “Caleb, are you awake?” I called out. “Yeah, I’m awake…” So he’s already up. That’s good… “Caleb, I have to go now. Your meal is already on the table—don’t forget to eat and take your me—” I stopped, freezing the moment the door opened. There he stood, frowning. Huh? Why is he glaring at me…? “Uh, sorry… Am I disturbing you? I-if that’s the case, I’d better go now. See you later…!” I stepped back and turned to leave, but his hand moved faster and caught my arm, pulling me back. “Why so early?” He asked. I looked at him—he looked like he was in a bad mood again. Seriously, what’s wrong with him lately? His mood is harder to predict than the weather forecast. “Uh, I need to go home first to pack my clothes, then head to campus…” I explained. Slowly, he loosened his grip. “Don’t forget our schedule,” he said in a flat tone. “Yeah, sure—I’ll try to be back on time,” I replied as I walked toward the door. “I don’t accept excuses, Sean,” he added, snorting softly as I opened the door and stepped out. “Okay, okay, I’ll be back like you said. Relax…” I turned around, gave him a small shake of my head, then closed the door behind me. I sighed softly, still standing there for a moment, then muttered to myself. “Does he look like he’s pouting… or is it just my imagination?” His face flashed through my mind again. He really did look like a sulky child afraid of being left behind. Before I realized it, I chuckled softly, then walked away, leaving the apartment building. I went back home. The residential area wasn’t far from the apartment building; it was only took a short walk away. I missed this place so much. The people here were nice, and what I liked most was the neighborhood itself. There were children playing outside, laughing and shouting as they ran around. Neighbors chatted on their porches — some with serious expressions, while groups of young teenagers hung out nearby. Some of them greeted me when they saw me. It felt so lively and warm. Then a woman called out. “Sean, can you come here?” She waved both hands, gesturing for me to come over. It was Madam Lui—I didn’t know her full name. “Madam Lui, what is it?” I asked, stopping in front of her white garage. “I saw the news and spotted you on TV with Caleb Bermount…” My body stiffened immediately. That was right — I had almost forgotten about the interview with those reporters. I wonder if everyone around here watched it too? Did Dad find out? “Th-there’s no way I was on TV… you must be mistaken,” I replied, trying to shut down the topic. “Really?” From the look on her face, I could tell she suspected me. Her eyes narrowed sharply. “But look at this…” She pulled out her phone and showed me a short video on the screen. “That’s you, right?” She pointed at the screen, showing only a quick silhouette of me. Well, the video didn’t show my whole body—only my back, and just a glimpse. “And they said your name…” She added, trying to confirm her suspicion. “I’m not the only person named Sean…” I chuckled softly. “It could be anyone…” I shrugged. “But…” She fell silent for a moment, as if thinking it over. Then she glanced back at her phone. “Anyway, I should get going now. See you, Madam Lui.” I waved goodbye and kept walking. That was close, for sure. But I’m glad she started to doubt herself. Now I just hope Dad didn’t watch that news. He’d recognize me instantly—no question about it. “Dad, I’m home…!” I called out excitedly and rushed inside. The door wasn’t locked anyway. “Sean…!” He came out of the kitchen and hurried toward me. My eyes started to well up. Without saying another word, I hugged him tightly. “Hahaha, I’m glad you’re home…!” He laughed softly. Ah, how I’d missed his voice—especially seeing him smile happily like this again. “Have you eaten yet?” He pulled back from the hug. “Not yet. I rushed straight here and didn’t get a chance to have breakfast.” I shook my head. “Perfect, then. We can eat together.” A wide smile spread across his face. We ate in peace. It had been so long since we’d had time to share a moment like this, always too busy struggling and arguing. I kept watching him; he looked more energetic and happier. Maybe because he’d already lost some weight. Like it or not, that was all thanks to Caleb… I couldn’t imagine what would have happened if I hadn’t met him back then, or if I’d agreed to James’ terms. I might have ended up as nothing more than his plaything by now… Just thinking about it was enough to make me shudder. “Are you okay?” Dad asked suddenly. “I’m fine—just happy to be home and eating with you,” I smiled at him and went back to eating. “By the way, how is work? Is everything going well?” He asked as he poured water into my glass, then his own. “So far, so good…” I nodded and took a small sip. “So… uh, Sean… do you know a girl named Michelle?” I narrowed my eyes and glanced at him. “She’s Maria’s niece,” he continued, looking straight at me. All of a sudden, I could feel this conversation was about to turn serious. “And…?” I asked, keeping my voice calm. “Uh… she wanted to introduce her niece to you…” My hand stopped mid‑motion. I knew where this was going. “You want to set me up with her?” I asked bluntly. “Well, I’d feel bad turning down her request. Maria has been so good to us…” I took a deep breath and let out a long sigh. There it was again—my father’s old habit. “It’s okay if you turn her down later, but could you at least meet her once?” He asked, his tone pleading. “Fine… I’ll go meet her then,” I mumbled quietly. “Thank you, Sean. I will tell Maria about this!” His face lit up, and his eyes brightened. “She will be so grateful!” I only gave him a faint smile, while my mind drifted somewhere else. Is this really okay? Should I tell Caleb? I was already starting to doubt my decision, but I couldn’t take back my words — not when I saw the happiness shining from my father’s face. But it’s just a meeting, after all. There’s still a chance nothing will come of it. It’s not like we’ll get engaged right away, right…? “Dad, I think I should pack now.” I stood up quickly. “That soon?” “Yeah, I made a promise with Daniel…” I nodded, then hurried off to my room.
