Valentina's POV As the car rolled to a stop, I realized people were watching us with reverence. We stepped out, and Ryker walked ahead like he owned the sky above this place. He didn’t look back to see if I followed or not because he was sure I would. We entered a hall at the center of the town something between a temple and a throne room. light lined the walls. At the center stood an altar with a gun rested on it and I froze. But Ryker walked to it without hesitation. “This place is what you would call sacred,” he said. “It belonged to my mother’s bloodline.” He turned to me slowly. “This is where all bonds are witnessed.” I swallowed. “Bonds?” He nodded. “This is where everyone will see us now.” My chest tightened. “Why?” His eyes met mine, and something cruel flashed in them.
