CHAPTER 12 – Training in Fire

465 Words
The morning air was cold, but Arielle’s blood burned. Kael led her to a secluded training ground deep within Alpha territory—far from the pack, far from prying eyes. The trees swayed in silence, but the bond between them pulsed loudly enough to drown out everything else. “You’ll begin today,” Kael said, his voice low and clipped. “Learning to control your power is not optional. One mistake, and someone dies.” Arielle swallowed, heat curling in her chest—not fear, exactly, but anticipation. The bond tugged at her insistently, feeding the fire between them. “Show me what you felt yesterday,” he commanded, stepping close. The air vibrated with his presence, strong, dangerous, Alpha. Arielle’s pulse throbbed in response, senses overloading. Every instinct screamed at her. She focused. Her hands trembled, and for a moment, nothing happened. Then—the bond flared. Silver energy rippled beneath her skin, crackling outward like lightning. Kael’s eyes widened, his own power surging instinctively to match hers. “Control it!” he barked, and the command was almost violent, but beneath it, she felt desire, sharp and wild. The first strike came without warning. A training dummy exploded in splinters as Arielle lashed out with instinctive force. Her own energy recoiled, spinning her backward. Kael caught her mid-fall, his grip strong, possessive, unyielding. “You’re letting it run you,” he growled, chest pressing against hers just enough to make her shiver. “Focus, or it will kill you… or me.” Heat coiled low in her belly. The bond throbbed violently between them, fanning a fire that both terrified and excited her. She met his gaze, silver light dancing in both their eyes, and whispered, “I don’t care anymore.” Kael froze for a heartbeat, then pulled her even closer. “Don’t say that,” he growled, voice low, ragged. “You’ll burn us both alive.” And when their foreheads pressed together, the world shifted. Energy surged violently through her veins, the first flicker of her true power manifesting. Trees shook, the ground trembled, and the wind carried the scent of fire, blood, and Alpha dominance. Arielle pulled back slightly, breathing hard. “Is this… real?” Kael’s hand lingered at her jaw, thumb brushing her lips. “Too real,” he admitted, his voice barely above a growl. “And you’re just getting started.” Behind the shadows, Lyra’s grin widened. She had been watching, silent, calculating. “So, the little Omega isn’t so little anymore,” she whispered. “Perfect. The storm is coming.” The bond, the desire, the power—they were all escalating. And Arielle realized, with a shiver that ran down her spine, that the line between training and temptation had already been crossed.
