Chapter 3

Isaac scoffed, the corner of his lips twitching in disbelief. “Are you playing some f*****g mind game with us, Adele?” Isaac's nose flared, his chest still heaving from the damage he had just done to her. “What exactly are you trying to say?” Adele said slowly, her fingers brushing against her lips, wiping away the blood. “You wanted a divorce. You hit me because of it… and I finally gave you what you wanted.” “Of course you know what he means, you barren fool,” Mrs Harrington interjected. “All of a sudden you decided to sign the papers after being rebellious?” “What exactly are you planning?” Adele raised her eyebrows, unable to believe these people were actually serious. Mrs Harrington immediately started to laugh as if she couldn't believe she asked her that question in the first place. “What possibly could you be planning anyways, you mentally unstable, useless, barren thing.” Adele's face immediately went cold, an emotion no one knew she could ever possess. Because now she remembers who she was and what she is. She ignored Mrs Harrington and turned to smirk at Gina who was still on the floor. Gina’s expression turned curious, as though she were trying to see through Adele. Because no normal person’s pain simply vanished that quickly. But then again, Adele had history with her mental health. That had to be it… right? “Congratulations on your divorce Isaac.” She finally turned to Isaac. “Life is funny. It gave me a husband… who turned out to be a complete joke.” Adele's voice wasn't shaky, it was bold and exacting what it was supposed to do. “That’s the problem!” Isaac took a step forward, then another, his shadow swallowing the space between them. “you think you are better than me. Yet you are nothing. We could kill you right now… and no one would even ask questions.” His hands lifted. For a split second, time slowed. But in one smooth motion, she caught his wrist mid-air. Not just caught, she stopped it. Effortlessly. He froze. “What the f**k—” Before he could react, she twisted swiftly. His body followed against his will, like it no longer belonged to him. His balance breaking as she stepped in, turning his own force against him. In less than a second, his arm was locked behind his back, his chest forced forward, his knees buckling. Mrs Harrington and Gina gasped at the same time. Eyes wide opened. “She’s breaking his arm!” Gina echoed with tears almost in her eyes. Mrs Harrington couldn't speak, she was stunned. Since when did Adele know how to fight? What was happening, she thought in between the chaos. “Where the hell is security?!” Mrs Harrington called, her voice cracking. “No need for that, Adele said softly, as she released Issac and took a few steps back. “I will be leaving.” “But I promise… every single one of you will pay for what you’ve done to me.” For the first time Mrs Harrington felt her heart skip, she wanted to believe her words but then again, Adele was a nobody, she wasn't important and she would never be. “Oh keep your empty threats and leave before I change my mind, and send you to jail for what you have just done to my son.” “Oh yes I will, but before that…. Adele raised her hands and ripped off the necklace clean off Mrs Harrington’s neck. “I believe this is mine.” She said with a smirk, picked up her phone by the table and left immediately. Mrs Harrington couldn't do anything, she couldn't move she was stunned beyond imagination. She had taken that necklace off her the very day her son brought Adele, because she believed someone like her couldn't own something that expensive and rare. “Isaac! Gina ran to Isaac who was still wriggling in pain on the floor. How could she do this to you?” Mrs Harrington's face immediately hardened. “You want to make us pay huh? Maybe in your next life.” She whispered to herself. Then she picked her phone and dialed an unnamed number. “Adele has become a threat,Kill her. Make it look like a robbery.” She said coldly and hung up. *** Adele stood by the roadside for nearly ten minutes before the low, predatory growl of an engine caught her attention. Deep. Expensive. Unmistakable. Then the car appeared sleek, black, and sinfully polished gliding into view like it owned the road, like it owned everything. A polished shoe touched the ground first, followed by long, dangerous lines of a man stepping out like the entire world existed beneath him. Zion Waltcoff. Three years.Three years, and he hadn’t changed. Still dressed in black like sin itself. Still wearing that faint, amused smile that never quite reached his eyes, the kind that stayed on his lips even when blood was on his hands. “Adele”! He called out like he couldn't believe his baby sis was standing in front of him. His eyes darkened, scanning her face like he was making sure she was real. His fingers curled slightly at his side, barely holding himself back, before pulling her into a tight, overwhelming embrace. “Why are you here in New York? I never stopped looking for you, you know?” “Why did you disappear without a trace?” Adele’s eyes filled with tears her lips trembling. “Or was it because we wanted you to marry Lucien? Is that why you punished your family, Adele? Everything we did was for you.” “No, I didn't leave. I…” Adele couldn't speak,. Emotions crashing into her all at once. But before Adele could continue what she was saying. The softness in Zion's eyes didn’t last. It never did with him. His eyes hardened instantly, something dark flickering behind them. “Who touched you?” he asked as he noticed the bruises all over her face. Adele blinked. “What—” “Who is the person who dared to lay their hands on you,” he repeated, his teeth gritted. “Not here Zion, let's just go home okay? I will tell you everything I promise.” Her voice was small and pleading. She knew Zion very well. He was the crazy sibling. She knows how he acts without thinking. But before she could say anything else Zion's gun was already out. No warning at all. Three gunshots shattered the silence before Adele could even react. The men in black suits who had been closing in behind her were on the ground before she even registered they wer e there. Zion tucked the gun back like he'd done nothing more than swat a fly. Then he looked at her sternly. "Let's go home.”
