James was still asleep when a knock on his door Woke him up.
"Baby, open up it me Kate." Kate called out with a gentle voice.
James groggily stood from the bed and walked to the door, as he opened it he came face to face with Jenny who's eyes spelt horror. " Jenny what the hell are you doing at my place this early?" James questioned. " aaaww, honey...... that's no polite way to welcome a guest" Kate cautioned while coming out from the corner of the building.
James's eyes widened in confusion as he took in the scene before him. Jenny looked like she had seen a ghost, and Kate's smile was unnervingly cheerful.
"Kate, what's going on?" James asked, trying to process the situation. He knew exactly what was going on, he just wasn't expecting it sooner.
"Oh, I think Jenny here was just about to tell you something," Kate said, her eyes glinting with malice. "Weren't you, Jenny?" She asked facing Jenny's direction who nodded fearfully.
Jenny's eyes darted back and forth between James and Kate, her face pale with fear. "James, I...I can explain," she stammered.
"Explain what?" James asked, his confusion turning to concern.
But before Jenny could answer, Kate pushed her way into the apartment, her gun glinting in the morning light. "I think we're past explanations, don't you, James?" Kate said, her voice dripping with venom. "We trio are already well acquainted with our bodies, our temperature and even how we moan behind closed doors." Kate detailed with an unnerving smile, quite dry.
James's eyes widened in shock as he realized the true extent of Kate's obsession. He tried to step back, but Kate was too quick. She pushed him back into the apartment, her gun trained on him.
"Kate, stop this," James pleaded. "You're not thinking clearly." He pleaded again hoping to somehow change her mind.
But Kate just laughed, her eyes wild with a manic intensity. "I've never been clearer, James. Just one question, amidst all the fun you guys had behind my back, did you even once consider how I'd feel if I found out about it? When you guys fell into the temptation that your flesh instituted, I did I come across your minds for at least once?............now, it's time for you to make a choice." Kate pressured. She had hoped that they considered her feeling while being selfish at best. She didn't want to turn out this way but this is it.
"You see, James," Kate continued, her voice dripping with malice, "I've been watching you. I know all about your little affair with Jenny here. And I have to say, I'm disappointed. I thought you were better than that."
James tried to speak, but Kate cut him off. "No, no, James. It's time for you to listen. You have a choice to make. You can either be with me, or you can die. Either way Jenny goes too, probably as bonus, but yeah we all die. Kate threatened.
Jenny gasped, her eyes wide with horror. "Kate, please," she begged. "Don't do this."
But Kate just smiled. "Oh, Jenny. You're so sweet. But you're also so irrelevant. This is between James and me now." She stood boldly. Hoping James would choose her even in this dire moment, even if he does choose her, she was unsure if her vengeful feeling would let her think rightly.
"Choose, James," Kate spat. "Choose now." She ordered.
James knew he had to think fast. He knew he had to protect himself and Jenny from Kate's wrath. But as he looked into Kate's eyes, he saw something that chilled him to the bone. He saw a deep, abiding madness. And he knew that he was in grave danger.
* * * *
James's mind raced as he tried to come up with a plan. He knew he couldn't reason with Kate, not now. She was too far gone. He had to think of something else, something that would distract her, give him and Jenny a chance to escape.
"Okay, Kate," James said, trying to sound calm. "I'll choose. I'll choose you."
Kate's eyes lit up with triumph. "Good choice, James," she said, her voice dripping with satisfaction. "Good choice." She said yet again.
But James knew he had to act fast. He knew he couldn't let Kate get the upper hand. He slowly started to move towards her, his hands held out in a calming gesture.
"Kate, let's talk about this," James said, trying to keep his voice steady. "Let's work through this together." He suggested.
But Kate was too smart. She saw what James was trying to do, and she wasn't having it. She raised the gun, pointing it directly at James's head.
"Don't try to trick me, James," Kate spat. "I'm not stupid. You're going to do exactly what I say, or you're going to die." Kate threatened.
James knew he was running out of time. He had to think of something, anything, to save himself and Jenny. But what? He looked around the room, desperate for a solution. That's when he saw it , a small vase on the reading table. Without hesitation, James grabbed the vase and threw it at Kate, hoping to distract her.
The vase hit Kate squarely on the shoulder, causing her to cry out in pain. James didn't hesitate , he grabbed Jenny's hand and made a run for the door.
"Go, go, go!" James shouted, pulling Jenny behind him.
They burst through the door and out into the hallway, Kate's angry shouts echoing behind them.
They didn't stop running until they reached the safety of road and hauled down a taxi.
As they sped away from the apartment, Jenny turned to James, her eyes wide with fear.
"What are we going to do?" she asked.
James shook his head. "I don't know," he admitted. "But we need to get as far away from Kate as possible."
Jenny nodded, her face pale. "She's not going to stop, is she?"
James's expression was grim. "I don't think so."
They drove in silence for a few minutes, both of them lost in their own thoughts.
Finally, Jenny spoke up. "We need to go to the police."
James nodded. "I know. But we need to be careful. Kate's not going to give up easily."
Jenny's eyes filled with tears. "This is all my fault," she whispered.
James reached out and took her hand. "No, it's not," he said. "We're in this together, okay?" James assured Jenny.
Jenny nodded, a small smile on her face.
But as they drove, James couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. He glanced at the back mirror, but saw nothing.
Still, the feeling persisted.
And then, just as they were starting to feel safe, James's phone rang.
He hesitated for a moment before answering.
"Hello?" he said cautiously.
"James," Kate's voice purred. "You think you can escape me? I'll always find you."
James's heart sank. "Kate, leave us alone," he pleaded.
But Kate just laughed. "Never," she said. "You're mine, James. And soon, you'll be mine again." Kate gave a synical laughter that James couldn't forget.
