As much as I would like to use my perks as being Alpha against Lila, she was already starting to get into my nerves. And believe me, you will get nothing but the worst of me if you manage to get into my nerves.
Luckily, she was a member of my pack. But that doesn’t mean that she can do whatever she wants. The Alpha deserves every bit of respect that he can get. He has power over every member of the pack. it was their duty to succumb and to follow their leader.
And I am their leader. I am the new Alpha of the Portland Wolf Pack.
I am not only the son of the former Alpha of the pack. On top of that, I earned my way to the top. I was not only destined to live, I fought for my spot.
My eyes turned gold, the mark of the Alpha. The other members of the pack had red eyes whenever they let their inner wolf take over their human side. This was me, acting like the Alpha when I want my people to follow my lead.
Lila immediately stopped unbuttoning my pants the moment I turned my eyes gold. She knew that I was not Reed anymore. Reed the sophomore student, Reed the basketball player.
I am now the Alpha of the Portland Wolf Pack and she was bound to submit to his words. Every piece of it.
“Please leave, I need to rest.” It was a simple command but Lila came out of my room running like a puppy kicked to stay outside. I didn’t want to do that to her but she was constantly offering herself to him
It’s not like Lila is not likable. She was actually very beautiful. But I had no feelings for her. And she was well aware of that. Like wolves, we all know that we are bound to someone, just one person, just one wolf during our whole lifetime. Some are lucky to find their Luna, others are not.
And I was just lucky to find who my Luna was. And since then. I have been eyeing her watching from afar up until she was old enough to know the truth about her true self.
I head to my door to lock it. It has been more than a minute since Lila marched forcefully out of my room. He can be really exhausting most of the time. But she was a member of my pack.
Unlike other wolves who were drawn into being one, bitten, I was different. I came from a long line of Lunas and Alphas, destined to mate and continue the race of the wolves, the shapeshifters in this world.
Lila’s mom was the wolf. She had never met her mate. Instead, she fell in love with a man, an ordinary human. Lila has two brothers, but she was the only one that turned into a wolf. Her mother sought my father’s help, Hector, the Alpha of the pack back then.
And now that I am the Alpha of this pack, it was my duty to take care of this pack, to welcome the young wolves that are bound to turn this year, and the years to come.
It was a tiring day. But as like any other Alphas and werewolf in his pack, I need to live a normal life too. Well, at least attempt to graduate and secure a respectable position in society. It was my duty to set an example to my pack while living a life as a human. It has always been like this. We werewolves were bound to live a dual life. As humans and as beings in a mythical world only a few knew to exist.
But tonight, I am simply the human Reed that has a paper due in a few days, a basketball practice at seven in the morning, and a job at Soco’s as an assistant chef. I was simply dead tired.
After washing myself, I laid on my bed and grabbed my phone. I almost forgot to text Elara. She was so nice to give me a ride to work and after. Even if she lived outside the university campus. She was nice enough to bring him back to the university,
I actually have a Ducati but it would be too extravagant to show off on campus. I was a working student. A Ducati does not fit that profile.
Last year, I had to take a gap year not to take care of my ailing mother or my siblings. I was crowned as new Alpha after fighting for my place. As much as my parents would love to hand me down the position in the pack, I had to earn it, prove to the whole pack that I was indeed the strongest and most suitable leader of the pack. After all, a weak Alpha is almost synonymous with a dead pack.
After I have managed to settle and established myself as the new leader of the Portland pack, it was not time for me to get back to school to work on the other side of my double life.
I had to work to earn money, even though my parents are generously rich. As head of the pack, I was also head of the pack finances. The businesses that pay tribute to the pack helped to send those underprivileged pack member’s children to school. Unlike other packs, our members lived pretty normal lives in different awesome industries that made our pack thrive, legally, in the eyes of the human world. All the tributes we receive from pack members go back to their children, to their human wives and husbands who are ailing with diseases only this human world can understand.
It was taboo to change a human, willingly to a wolf. All the other wolves under his pack who were not born into their supernatural world were victims of rogue wolves, or people who happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time - during the change.
The change can really mess you up especially if you had no idea that you were one of the Lycans. That was what our ancestors were called. But there are signs of the change.
Some assumed that it was aggression, but in reality, it was the opposite. The need to detach one’s self to society, to the people dear to you are clear signs of the change. All you want is to free yourself of your emotional attachments. It’s like you against the world.
I am starting to get sleepy. Living the dual life can be quite exhausting too, as much as Lila is exhausting, maybe even more. I almost forgot I was supposed to text Elara. But I am too sleep. Maybe it would be best if I call instead.
“Hello,“ Elara’s voice was also sleepy at the other end.
“Hi, did you get home safe?” I had to ask.
“Yes,” She said on the other line.
“Alright then, I’ll guess I’ll see you tomorrow?”
She yawned, “Why?”
“At school, for our paper. And of course, at work too.” I said.
“Oh yes, the paper. I have finished the draft. Maybe you can read it and type it too.” She yawned again. “Maybe we can talk about this tomorrow, my eyes are really really heavy I might end up sleeping through this call.” Her voice was apologetic.
“Goodnight then,” I said and then pressed the red button to end the call.
I placed my phone on my side table and closed my eyes to begin my sleep. Finally, I can worry less now. I have finally found my Luna. She had found her way to me, to Portland, without even me trying to make an effort for her to do so. It felt as if faith and destiny agreed to work hand in hand to bring her close to me. After years of watching by the sidelines, she was finally here in Portland.
I just have to wait for a few weeks, maybe even less. What is meant to be will eventually happen. My Luna will finally realize who she is, what she is, and what her place in this unfamiliar new world will be.
“It is nice to officially meet you my Luna. I have waited for you for so long. The Queen of the Alpha, the ray of my moon. It was nice to finally meet you, Elara Freling.”
