Reed drove us away from Diana’s home, my former home. I couldn’t be more relieved that it was all over. It was not as intense as I imagined it would be but it opened up new wounds as she managed to seal old ones. Nonetheless, deep inside, I knew I was happy to see my mom again. Reed placed my hands on top of the shift stick so he could hold my hand as he drove away from that place. He allowed me to have my moment of silence. Maybe he was thinking that I was pondering on the things that I learned about today. Or maybe I simply needed the space, the silence. “I think we should settle somewhere tonight. You’re tired.
