Time seemed to slow as Alexis reached the bottom of the stairs, her heart pounding so loudly she could barely hear the panicked gasps around her. She was too late. The chandelier came crashing down, a deafening sound shattering through the room. “No!” Alexis screamed, her legs nearly giving out beneath her. Glass shards sprayed in every direction, and she shielded her face, stumbling just short of where Cody had stood. But then... nothing. Her eyes widened in shock, her breath catching in her throat. She moved slowly toward the wreckage. A bit further, she saw Diego, who had shoved Cody out of the way.
