“You didn’t have to do that,” she managed, her voice steadier this time. Diego’s lips tugged into a faint smile, one that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “I know,” he replied. “But you look different like this. I like it.” Her body betrayed her, leaning in slightly, caught in the pull between wanting to move away and staying right where she was. “You always do this,” she muttered, half annoyed, half something else. “What’s your problem?” Diego’s smile widened just a bit, and he stepped in closer, enough that her heart pounded against her chest. “No problem,” he said quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. “Unless you want me to stop.” Alexis opened her mouth, but no words came out.
