The evening sun dipped low, casting a warm glow over the estate, bathing everything in gold. Mrs Carrington had arranged one of her many work functions to be hosted in the evening. Alexis was nearly ready, adjusting the final touches on her dress, when a soft knock sounded at her door. She opened it to find Cody standing there, dressed in a suit, his expression a mix of confusion and admiration. His gaze drifted over her, his eyes widening slightly. “ you look pretty,” he murmured, a simple word that seemed to carry more weight than she’d expected. Her lips curved into a smile, feeling her cheeks heat up despite herself. “Thank you, Cody.
