Moonnight pack

CHAPTER 2 Katniss POV It's been two days since the incident, and I have been stuck on this bed ever since. Alpha Cedric and Mirabel insisted on having me fully recovered before I could take any step further. Alpha Cedric has been a huge help to Mirabel and me. Most of our essential needs have been taken care of by him, including the hospital bills as well. He has been available both physically, emotionally, and otherwise. Even Mirabel, who usually finds it hard to accommodate strangers, has suddenly become his best girl. They laugh, play, and chatter all day, which always tends to brighten my day—making me sometimes forget about the horror and darkness slowly consuming me. I have tried connecting to my wolf Aurora, but it seems our wolf bond has weakened ever since the incident. I can still feel her, but trying to communicate with her seems impossible. Aurora despises me, yeah I know— So many times, I could feel her detest towards me. Sometimes she calls me weak, pathetic, and a stupid bondmate, but I always felt like she was bluffing. After all, she was my she-wolf and we were bonded forever. I guess reality finally dawned on me after this incident. I have had time to think and reflect on my own end, and indeed she was right. I was weak and pathetic. Somehow, deep in my subconscious, I always thought that Father, being the strongest Alpha, would forever protect me—well at least till I was much older to take on responsibilities by myself. Indeed! What a fool I was. I have tried reaching out to Aurora over these past few days, but all seemed abortive. It is either she doesn't want to speak to me or I am too broken to even feel my link to her. “Katniss... Katniss... are you okay?” Alpha Cedric's voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I gave him a weak smile before nodding. “I am fine...” “Oh, that is good then. The doctor said you can be discharged tomorrow,” he said, and I nodded slowly. His gaze lingered for a while before he spoke up again. “I plan to take you and Mirabel to my pack tomorrow." I turned sharply towards him. “Why would you do that? No—we can't burden you any further. I can protect and take care of my sister...” I protested firmly against the idea, to which he sighed deeply. “Mirabel did say you would be against the idea...” “Yes, because it is a silly idea,” I said, shaking my head. By the laws of the the werewolves realm, any orphan is automatically a rogue. He or she would be cast out of the borders and made to live among commoners. Breaking this rule is punishable by death. “My father had already made arrangements for Mirabel and me in case anything should ever happen to them... no one knew it would come in handy so soon,” I muttered with a shaken breath and clouded eyes. Alpha Cedric gently patted my back. “Remember what I told you earlier. I meant every word I said. I am willing to bear this burden. Your father was one of my very good friends and allies. I am sure he would have done the same if the reverse had been the case.” “Even at that... I do appreciate the gesture, Alpha, but what if people find out?” “Relax, Katniss. I already have provided the best solution for that,” he replied with a soft reassuring smile. I stared at him with a raised brow, waiting for him to continue. “I plan on introducing you and Mirabel as my illegitimate daughters.” I froze— Illegitimate daughters? Truly, this could work. An Alpha with illegitimate children was not something difficult to see... but illegitimate daughters? This would be a permanent stain on both Mirabel and me—from princesses to illegitimate spawns. “I know it is a lot to take in, but I am very sincere in my proposal. I wish there could be any other way I could reverse this situation, but...” He paused and took a deep breath. Bowing softly, I knew this was the best he could offer. He had already done a lot for Mirabel and me, and honestly, I was deeply grateful for his help and kindness. Truly, this was the only option because the arrangement done by Father could only have been implemented through Beta Simon, but now he was dead. Tears clouded my vision again, but I blinked them back. I raised my head and met his soft gaze. Taking a deep breath, I finally made a decision. “We both accept your proposal,” I replied firmly, which made a huge smile spread across his face. “Good! That is good. By tomorrow, when you are discharged, I will introduce you to my pack, the Moonnight Pack. You shall now be princesses of the Moonnight Pack.” I nodded with a faint smile. Princesses of the Moonnight Pack? No longer princesses of the Silvercrest Pack. I resisted the tears threatening to fall. Tears were just salty water. They wouldn't change a damn thing. I would be strong. I shall use my every breath to become stronger, more powerful. The world truly only respects the strong, and I will become one. One day, I shall stand at the highest peak and rebuild the Silvercrest Pack from the ashes. This is my promise. “But how would your Luna and your children take this sudden news? What about the other Alphas? They are aware of Mirabel and my identity. I am sure not all will be accepting towards this,” I said, clearly bothered. He nodded solemnly. “No need to be so worried, Katniss. As for my Luna and my son, they are already aware of my decision and are in full support. As for the other Alphas, I shall inform them and we will definitely reach a compromise, so don't worry. I have everything covered.” He reassured me, patting my head softly. I nodded with a small smile. “Thank you, Alpha Cedric,” I said sincerely. “You are most welcome, my dearest. And enough of this ‘Alpha Cedric’ call, call me Uncle Cedric, okay?” I nodded. “Alright... now where is my favourite girl?” he asked, looking around for Mirabel, who ran in almost immediately, throwing herself into his arms. They exchanged playful banter, which made me smile. How I wished life could be this perfect... But it doesn't matter. I would make sure to protect and cherish this moment. Next Day I was discharged, and Uncle Cedric came to pick us up. Mirabel was so excited, speaking endlessly to Uncle Cedric and his driver, Amos, who both replied with smiles all the time. They both loved her, and I was glad. I turned my attention outside, staring at the huge trees as my thoughts drifted away. I had tried connecting to Aurora again, but it was still unsuccessful. It seemed she was the one blocking all communication with me. How I wished I could turn back the hands of time and break down the walls between us. If only I had listened... if only I had bonded closely with her despite her indifference. I sighed softly, still buried in my thoughts when Mirabel suddenly screamed in excitement. “We are here! We are finally here... wow! Uncle Cedric, your pack is so beautiful!” Her astonished voice pulled my attention immediately. I took in a sharp breath at the sight before me. Truly deserving of its name—the Moonnight Pack, the wealthiest pack in the werewolf realm. Everything carried a touch of moonlight. Beautiful yet soothing. Every flower, leaf, and structure bore the symbol of the Moonnight Pack. “Welcome to your new home, my darlings,” Uncle Cedric said with a smile, which I returned while Mirabel laughed joyfully. As we rode past, businesses and trades were open. People in both human and wolf forms moved around peacefully, smiling and interacting with one another. The entire pack screamed wealth, peace, and unity. I glanced at Uncle Cedric, who caught my gaze immediately and gave me a charming smile, which I returned softly. Soon, we reached the Alpha manor. A huge moon gate stood at the entrance, opening the moment our car stopped before it. We rode into the massive manor grounds, and honestly, words could not describe it. It was beautiful. Elegant. Expensive. Mirabel kept gasping in amazement, making everyone chuckle softly. Despite all the beauty, I still wished I was back in the Silvercrest Pack. Although it wasn't this sophisticated, it was home. My home— I swallowed the emotions rising inside me. The car finally stopped. The moment I stepped out, I was pulled into a warm hug. A woman held me tightly—but gently enough not to make me uncomfortable. She smelled like roses, soothing and comforting at the same time. When she pulled away, I almost gasped. She was beautiful. Too beautiful. The only person who could rival her beauty was Mother. While Mother possessed the kind of beauty that could overthrow kingdoms, this woman looked ethereal—like a fairy brought to life. “You must be Katniss. I've heard so much about you. You are most welcome here. Take this as your new home from now on,” she said gently. I nodded softly. “And this must be Mirabel—the little cutie my mate would not stop talking about.” She hugged Mirabel tightly before tickling her, causing Mirabel to burst into cheerful laughters. Uncle Cedric walked over with a smile and wrapped an arm around her waist. “This is my lovely wife, mate, and Luna of the Moonnight Pack, Evelyn. You may call her Aunt Evelyn.” We greeted her politely, and she smiled warmly while patting our cheeks. “And this is our son, Damon.” The moment I turned to look at him, I nearly lost my breath. For the first time in days, Aurora stirred violently within me. “This is him... our mate.”
