Unexpectedly Mine

-Conner’s POV- It has been a year since I left Brisbane for the inventory reports of “L Airlines” in Canada, Japan, and Singapore. I also got tied up with Indonesia which allowed me to open a port in there. Ever since I saw Lucy together with Nick I devoted myself in managing the business that my uncle Jack endorsed to me. I read the airline’s history, a couple of strategic designs and other documents that would help me understand the business more. I made a couple of action plans which I presented to my uncle and made the necessary modifications that I think would best benefit the airlines and its employees. I trained and worked day and night. I had to focus because a lot people depend on me now and most especially I need a lee way to keep myself from thinking about Lucy and her ongoing relationship with Nick. Now that it has been a year I feel that maybe I have gotten over what I have felt about Lucy. I was about to loosen my tie when uncle Jack knocked on the door. “Welcome back, Son! How was your trip?” Uncle greeted me with a hug. “It was great.” I responded. “There were a couple of bumps on the way, but I am lucky enough to have competent company leaders who truly helped me along the way.” I guided him to have a seat on the couch I have in my room. As we sat I looked at him with sincerity “Honestly, it feels great! I haven’t felt this great in my entire life! This is the first time that I felt important. Uncle, I just really want to say thank you. I know very well that thank you isn’t enough for everything that you have done for me.” Uncle Jack placed a hand on my shoulder. “Son, there is no need for you to say that. From the bottom of my heart I really want to make up with all the grief that you have been through in the hands of my brother. Like I said before, I will give you what you deserve.” Having heard what he said I felt this warmth inside my heart. Something that my own father has not given to me. “Before I forget, I will hold a welcome party for you tonight and there’s somebody I wish for you to meet.” My eyebrows arched “Who is it, uncle?” My uncle said while smiling. “This woman is the daughter of the owner of ‘The Delight Café’. Have you heard of it?” With all the responsibilities in my hands I doubt I could remember all the cafes I went in. “I’m sorry I haven’t. What about her?” My uncle clasped his hands and became serious all of a sudden. “Well, as you can see I am not getting any younger and what I am truly worried about is you and your future. The parents of this woman are good people and from the information I got from my investigators, this woman has good educational background. She is currently the one handling their family business. I think she is a catch and I want you to marry her.” I was taken aback. I was mesmerized as to how straight-forward he was while talking about marriage. “I-I don’t think it would be fair to marry a lady whom I do not know and maybe won’t have feelings for. You know how I feel about women. Plus, I don’t know if I’m ready for marriage.” Without hesitation he said “I know. That is why I arranged your marriage even before you got back here. I know that you will not hurt her and I know you can take on anything even at your young age. In less than a year you have captivated the hearts of the employees and even ranked 1st in the Airlines industry in Dubai and just 2 weeks ago you opened a port in Indonesia. So, marriage should be a piece of cake for you.” He smirked. “Trust me on this.” I shrugged my shoulders “When did you arrange our marriage? Why is it that you told this to me just now?” He let out a sigh “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about this earlier, but I arranged this marriage 9 months ago. You don’t have to worry about her parents because they have agreed to do this. Your wedding ceremony will take place at the Brisbane Cathedral at the end of the month. I have taken care of everything except for the wedding gown and the wedding cake for I don’t know what this woman likes.” I never thought of marrying this early, but I couldn’t say no to my uncle who took me away from the trash I was in. “Well, since everything is set would you mind if I get to have at least a little background about this lady?” He immediately stood up and got an envelope and handed it to me. “Here’s everything that you need to know about this woman. I hope you won’t take things against me. I am doing this for your own good.” With that he tapped my shoulder and went outside my room. I loosed my tie and took out the documents inside the envelope. I read through the woman’s background. She graduated with flying colors, received awards and has great achievements. As I went through the information it was getting awfully familiar; the Brisbane Bay where the parents reside and the surname. My heart went from calm to frantic. I kept on reading her information until I flipped a page where this woman’s picture was stapled. My eyes-widened upon seeing the face of my future wife. After all the things I did to forget, I could not believe that the woman I was trying to erase in my memory will become mine. “Lucy Summers is my future wife.”
