Chapter 29 – The Hunter Crosses Over
The forest had grown restless.
By the third night, even the trees seemed to whisper warnings. Leaves rustled when there was no wind. Branches creaked as if heavy with unseen weight. Seren felt it in her bones—the shift, the shadow, the unnatural chill that seeped into the air.
Lyra noticed too. She hadn’t said it aloud, but Seren saw the change. The warrior no longer allowed the fire to dwindle, no longer left her weapons resting on the ground. She kept her blade within reach even when she slept, ears twitching at the slightest sound, her silver eyes sharper than ever.
Something was coming.
And though Seren didn’t know what, she feared she did.
