A gentle breeze cooled the air as they sat eating their lunch at the lookout. Chelsea studied her daughter’s profile as she chatted about the lake view far below them. Now that she was weaned off the pain meds and the pain had settled down, she saw things more clearly. Something was different about Sydney. She saw it and sensed it. Sydney took a bite of her egg salad sandwich and instantly gagged. She jumped up and ran behind the sagebrush and vomited. She placed her hands on her knees and took deep breaths. “Are you alright?” Sydney returned to her spot beside her mother. “I’m okay.
