LEXI POV
“Nigel!” I was holding back sobs. “I thought you were dead!”
His voice was flat. “I almost was, Lexi-girl. I need to see you. I’m almost to the road that leads to the Pack. Can you meet me at the gate?”
“No, I’ll meet you at the road. I’m about ten minutes from there. Just wait for me.”
“Lexi, what did you do?” He sounded weary.
“Don’t worry about it, Nigel. Just wait for me. I’ll be right there.”
I dropped my phone back into my backpack just as it rang again. Thinking it might be Nigel, I fished it out again and checked caller ID. It was Luke. I switched it off and dropped it on the ground where I stood. I didn’t need him tracking me right now. I shifted, speed over stealth at this point. Picking up the backpack I put it in my mouth and started running towards the road.
