Enya’s P.O.V
“It’s Enya.” I replied quietly. “Enya.” He breathed out my name like it was the most precious thing in this world. A shiver ran down my spine as I felt his hot breathe on my face. Then, without separating our foreheads, he slid the hand that still held the side of my face to the back of my head. A blush bloomed on my cheeks as he brushed over the nape of my neck, and I had to hold myself back from making any noise as he tangled his fingers in my wet hair. He brought some of my hair over my shoulder and I shivered yet again as he brought my hair up to his nose, inhaling deeply. I heard the other Alphas again as they called for him. They were almost here. I pressed against his chest again and took a step back. “I really need to go.” I said looking up at him. He took another deep inhale of my hair before finally opening his eyes.
Raiden’s P.O.V
“I really need to go.” She had said. I knew she did, but I didn’t want to let go of her. I took one last deep inhale as I smelled her hair, and opened my eyes to look at her. I could see the pleading urgency behind her gaze, and regretfully loosened my grip around her waist. “Will I see you again?” I asked, trying to prolong the moment as much as I could. She brought one of her hands up to meet my hand that was still gently gripping her hair. “I can’t make any promises.” She said. “But maybe we’ll see each other again.” I knew that that was the best I was going to get as I heard the other Alphas calling for me. I let her hair slip from my grasp and took a step back.
Enya watched Raiden step back and knew he understood. She turned to the sea and walked into the surf. “Oh, and could you say hi to Leon from the Southern territories for me?” She asked without looking back. “Of course.” Raiden replied, a little hurt. “Thank you.” She said glancing over her shoulder before diving into the waves. Raiden stared after her, awestruck as the other Western Alphas finally made their way onto the beach. They all clamored around him, asking if he was alright. “I’m fine.” He said, as he stared out at the sea. “Come on Raiden.” An older female Alpha said, grabbing his shoulder. “Let’s rejoin the Southern Alphas.” “Alright.” He replied, glancing back at her. He stared off into the distance for a moment longer before turning around and joining the Western Alphas as they returned to the wolfsbane fields where the Southern Alphas had remained.
When they returned to the fields, the Southern Alphas were all grouped together, talking adamantly amongst themselves. Raiden was able to pick up bits and pieces of their conversation as the Southern Alphas all tried to talk over each other. “What was she doing here?... Why was she here?.... Wasn’t that the half sea nereid?... That was the youngest Drago daughter.” Then Raiden heard a faint whisper that nearly made him stop in his tracks. He looked hard at the group and noticed that one of them was kneeling on the ground with a stunned look on his face. Then Raiden heard the whispered voice again and was finally able to pinpoint where it came from. He broke away from his own group and strode towards the kneeling Alpha. He reached the man just as he whispered again, and Raiden halted in his stride as he finally clearly heard what the other man had been saying. “Enya.”
“Enya.” Leon repeated again. It was all he could say since she ran off, staring at the ground as he whispered her name like a prayer. He barely registered the voices of the other Alphas as they talked, or the Alpha that had walked up to him until he spoke. “You alright?” Raiden asked squatting down to Leon's level. Leon didn’t react, so Raiden reached out and grasped Leon’s shoulder. “Hey.” He said as he gave Leon a slight shake. The movement was enough to rouse Leon, and he blinked as he looked at the man next to him. “Huh?” He asked still slightly dazed. “I asked if you were alright.” Raiden said as his gaze searched Leon’s face.
“Oh... yeah.” Leon replied hesitantly. “I’m fine.” Raiden could tell that he clearly wasn’t fine, but decided not to press Leon further. At least, not right now. Raiden stood up and reached his hand out to Leon. “Here, let me give you a hand.” Leon nodded as he looked up to Raiden and clasped his hand. Raiden pulled him up effortlessly and the two held gazes for a brief yet awkward and tense moment. The two stiffly released the grip they hand on the other’s hand and walked over to where the rest of the Alphas had gathered, still frazzled from the events that had occurred. Two of the older Alphas had taken positions away from the group and were discussing something amongst themselves.
Then, suddenly, the two simultaneously shifted and started howling, demanding the attention of the rest of the group. A deafening silence fell over the rest of the Alphas as they turned their attention to the two that howled. The two shifted back and quickly redressed. The female, who happened to be the one who spoke to Raiden on the beach, was the first to speak. “Now that we have your attention,” She said. “I think it’s time you all stop acting like startled pups. We’re Alphas for Goddess sake.” There was a hushed murmur as the other Alphas ridiculed themselves at her words. “Well said.” The male Alpha now spoke. “The two of us agreed that we should get started with the hunt. We’ll start by introducing ourselves, then we’ll pair up for the hunt. I’ll start. I’m Ryan, age twenty-five, from the WhiteRain pack.” As he finished introducing himself, he gestured to the female Alpha next to him. She nodded and introduced herself. “I’m Amirah, twenty-five, from the IcePaw pack.
One by one the Alphas introduced themselves, working from the front of the group to the back. Finally, only two Alphas were left to introduce themselves. “I’m Raiden, twenty-one, from the CrimsonSky pack.” Raiden said and glanced over at the uninterested man beside him. Leon crossed his arms and heaved a sigh before speaking. “Leon, eighteen, FireHeart pack.” He said in a monotone voice. Raiden perked a little when he finally had confirmation that the mopey and brooding man next to him, was in fact the man that Enya had asked him to speak to. He felt a slight pain in his chest as her image flashed through his mind again. What he wouldn’t give to be wrapped up in her arms again, kissing her sweet lips with a passion he never knew existed.
“Raiden.” Amirah said, breaking Raiden away from his daydream. “Yes?” Raiden replied, focusing on Amirah. “Since you and Leon seem to be on terms already, the two of you can team up for the hunt.” She said gesturing to the unamused man next to him. “Very well.” Raiden said respectfully. “Whatever.” Leon grumbled as he started walking off. Raiden easily caught up with Leon, and the two walked in uncomfortable silence with Leon slightly leading. Oddly enough, Leon ended up heading towards the beach. Raiden remained silent until Leon had finally stepped onto the sand, then he spoke in a hushed but resolute tone. “Enya asked me to say ‘hi’ to you for her.”
Leon’s P.O.V
I paused in my steps hearing her name come from his mouth. “What?” I asked in disbelief as I turned around slowly. “Enya.” He said her name again, and I clenched my fists and grit my teeth. How dare he say her name. “She asked me to tell you that she said ‘hi’.” “How do you know her name.” I ground out as my anger grew. He crossed his arms as he spoke. “I chased after her when she left the fields.” I started to shake. “I jumped off of the cliff after her.” I started to breathe faster. “We climbed out onto the beach together.” My heart started to beat rapidly. Then he paused, staring me dead in the eyes, and smirked. “And I kissed her.” I snapped and lunged at him before he could dodge. He landed on his back, and as he stared up at me the only thing that came to mind was, “She’s Mine!”
Raiden’s P.O.V
I told Leon that I kissed Enya, and he had me on the ground in seconds. The amount of absolute rage behind his hazel eyes was chilling up until he yelled, ‘She’s Mine!’.” All logic and reason I had, left me as anger filled my very soul. I shoved him off of me and took up a fighting stance. He scrambled up from where he landed and did the same. “She’s not yours.” I growled out as we started to circle each other. “She’s Mine!” Then, all at once, we both shifted into our wolves and started to fight.
Fangs and claws flashed wildly in the dimming light as the two wolves bit and clawed at each other. Fur and sand flew every which way as they continued their violent dance. Crimson blood marring the previously untainted sand. Both being Alphas, they were both strong and talented fighters, and had been well trained for years. Neither would give their opponent an opening for a serious blow as they traversed the beach, slowly making their way towards the water. Hours passed before the two eventually began to tire. Rage dulled into numbing exhaustion as they both collapsed onto the wet sand and shifted back into human form. They each turned onto their backs as they gasped for air. Neither noticing the sand and salt water that was washing into their still open wounds.
They stayed like that for a few moments, neither having the energy to speak. When they had finally caught their breath, neither could bring themselves to speak first. They were both ashamed that they had acted the way they did, and their wolves were just as ashamed of themselves. The tension and unease grew as the waves gently ebbed and flowed on the shoreline. They both knew that they needed to break the stalemate, but neither knew how. Then a large wave suddenly crashed onto the shore, drenching the two men. The two spluttered and spat to get the sand and water out of their mouths and noses, when they found themselves face to face.
Hazel met storm grey, and for a moment both were too stunned to speak. Then they unanimously started to laugh, full hearty and genuinely happy. Raiden was the first to compose himself and extended a hand out to Leon. “Truce?” He asked smiling. “Truce.” Leon agreed with a slight nod and a smile. The two moved up the beach slightly and sat down next to each other on the dry sand. They laid back and talked for a while about all manner of things. The more they talked, the more they found that they enjoyed each other’s company.
Although they didn’t speak more on the subject, they both knew that neither could nor would give up on Enya. With that silent agreement between them easing their minds, and the gentle crash of the waves lulling their hearts, they both soon found themselves drifting off to sleep. And that is where the rest of the Alphas found them early the next morning. Blissfully sleeping side by side on the sand. But what had them confused, was the curious woven blankets that they found draped over the two sleeping figures.
