The beginning

Its a new beginning , a new start a new feeling . After moving to New york from Texas5year I moved here as I had broken up with my boyfriend Noah , he and I had known each other all our lives .

He asked me to be his girlfriend in 12 grade I thought we were gonna

be one if those couples that go from highschool sweethearts to forever love .

We had both got the acceptance letter , for the universities around the same time . My mum said "ki im so happy that you and Noah aren't going to the same university otherwise you won't be able to focus on You're own likes and wants "

My mom is a cardiologist and my dad a great author I have a younger sister , Rena

my parents marriage is something I always arrived for so love that with time has changed to friendship and growing up me and Rena we were so tight knit But it all changed when I decided to surprise Noah for his birthday so , I went to his campus and I remembered his dorm no I knocked and I saw him and Amara making out .

To say I was shocked was an understatement, I didn't cry just stood there he said "Baby its not what it looks like im in love with you " and Amara looking flustered couldn't utter a word .

I couldnt be in the same room as them

And just went home , when I reached home I went directly into my room and began crying in my pillow I just couldn't believe ir process it at all , and lucky me I found an internship in Newyork it was for

myself , my mental health , I felt like my parents had always favored my sister over me , I just didn't see it or maybe I didn't choose to see it .

All these memories from my childhood came back like nightmarish version of blast from the past .

I remembered it was my birthday and my parents I didn't tell or my sister I figured they might ve already known .

But they were just helping Amara prep for her play in beauty and the beast .

When I tried to talk my mom said " shhhh Kaia , dont you see You're sister is busy rehearsing and my dad didn't say anything just stared blank .

To be honest I never expect a big reaction from dad as he is man of very few words .

had also forgotten my birthday, and was like " could you help blow dry my hair I cant move with the mani padi

you know"

After that I just went to school but to my surprise my friend Kelsey remembered my birthday and had even made me a birthday card .

It was a collage of our photos together, it was so thoughtful.

Growing up she was the only friend I had , Kelsey tells me "so what did your family plan for you " I wasn't gonna tell her that they had nothing planned , if they did plan anything it would mainly involve Rena , I just said"Oh nothing you know how busy my parents are ", "yeah ki your parents are busy just for you because we both know that if Rena needs an ice pack, a head message , your mom would personally come and give her that.

"like you're way to nice for you're own good "

" kels please im sure they Dont leave me high and dry like this and maybe They got like a surprise party for me I mean They did it for Rena last year She looks at me with a smile "kii you're optimistism never fails to amuse me , I really hope it is what you said and they're not forgetful,"

" oh yeah I was telling you about the boy I liked , well turns out he likes me to .

Well he hasn't actually said it but you it a process . "im sure he likes or will like you no matter how much he would hide it

didn't you read the book i bought you " ways to a mans heart"

"I read it and the advised was as if we were in the 1950s

" Really cuz the book clearly said editions of 2021 ha you got a boyfriend".

" yeah ok hush hes name kevin and hes really sweet and funny "..

" well I just I hope You're happy "

" yeah thanks and call me for that birthday party ".

" ok see you " Kelsey just gives a smile and says " bye eat lots cake and send some pics " .

So when I had gone home I could see from the out so that everything was dark , I thought to myself what if they actually came through and ran to my door excitedly and I opened my door only to find dark lights surrounding the living room , just then I got a text from mom saying " Ri was hungry so we stopped ,by this Italian restaurant do you want anything?

I said " a pizza would be great "

she said " ok " .

I was sad but it wasn't something i wouldn't have expected , so I sat in the couch , took out my homework and started doing it , and by the I was done I heard the bell ring I opened the door it wasy parents and Rena , they had broughty pizza Rena said "Ki You're pizza is like so cheesy and greasy how do You eat it "

" Thankyou for bringing back pizza for me I was starving " .

My mom said " we just met Kelsey today and she said its your birthday were sorry, to show you that were sorry we brought back the desserts you like ".

To which Rena looked angry and said " Why cant you remember Ki s birthday for once".

Mom looked apologetic , and dad looked like hes bout to cry .

I said " Re its ok they were busy "

she suddenly remembered " Oh yes I forgit your birthday to im sorry , actually I .was so busy this morning that I couldn't remember.

So on the way home I made mom and dad stop the car at the nearest mall and I bought You a charm bracelet ".

" it reminded me of you with paris sign , You always wanted to go to paris , a unicorn cus you're a dreamer ,a butterfly because you always wanna fly and explore different places and I dont know the animals though" .

I started laughing and everyone joined in

and I said " Oh thats so thoughtful of you Thankyou so much " .

" You're welcome im glad you like it "

I was running upstairs to my room to call kels when She called me instead she said " I saw your parents and sister " and I cut her off by saying " yeah they told me ".

she said " They bought you a pizza didn't they , cuz I saw them dining in one of the finest restaurants in town , I sat 2 tables across them I saw them order a huge plater of seafood boil , and blueberry chocolate cheesy cake for dessert

Rena ate as though she had been starving since ages .

I met them outside the restaurant and said " Im here with family are you guys here with kaia its her birthday After all"

you mom said " No its not ".
