Chapter 4:The Library encounter

1011 Words
He was really tall and looked like he had walked straight out of a movie, with his green eyes and warm brown hair. He smelled… amazing. Way more handsome than Billy Jackson. This felt like a romantic scene straight out of an MSA. When he spoke, his voice was the most dreamy thing I had ever heard. I could feel myself blushing, and my heart practically did a backflip. Stranger: Are you okay? Here’s your book, by the way. Serena (shyly): I’m fine, thank you. Stranger: I’m Mikey, by the way. Serena: S-se-se… Serena. Mikey (laughing): Nice to meet you, S-se-se-Serena. Serena (embarrassed): Uhm, thanks for helping me with the book. Mikey: No biggie. I saw a pretty girl struggling, and I wouldn’t be much of a gentleman if I didn’t help, would I? Oh my gosh… did he just call me pretty? I’m blushing so hard right now. Serena: You think I’m pretty? Mikey: Of course. Really pretty. Serena (blushing): Thanks… you look good yourself. We both laughed as we took seats in the library. It turns out he was really smart, too, and he made such a good reading partner. You know, normally when you see guys that are that handsome, you think, meh, he must not be too smart. Well, Mikey just proved me wrong—beauty and brains? His smile was killing me. Focus, girl… don’t go looking like a hopeless romantic. Serena: So… I’ve never seen you around before. Why is that? Okay, good. Don’t sound too eager. Mikey: Well, that’s because my family just recently moved here. Serena: Oh, I see. That makes sense. Omg… he’s so easy to talk to. Mikey: Yeah, Lily Hills is a very beautiful town. Serena: It sure is. By the way, how old are you? Mikey: Fourteen. Why? Serena: No way… how are you so tall? Seriously… those long legs. Serena, focus. Mikey (chuckles): I get that a lot. I guess it’s because my dad’s really tall. Serena: Genes, huh? For a minute, I thought you were older than me. He’s smiling at me… ok cool, don’t stare. Mikey: You’re fourteen too? Serena: Sadly, yes. Mikey: Interesting… what month? Serena: February. Why? Mikey: Hehe… I’m older. Serena: Really? What month—wait, don’t answer that. It’s obviously January. Come on, girl… don’t sound dumb. Mikey: Yeah, so technically I’m older than you. Serena: Yeah, yeah. It’s just a month. Mikey (giggles): I’m still older, though. We talked a bit, and I found out we had a lot in common. We like the same ice cream flavor, love the same kind of music, and—most importantly—we both love anime. Plus, he’s really nice, too. Well, there goes my study plan. I ended up totally distracted by a very handsome distraction. I casually took out my phone to check the time, and oh my gosh—it was already 8 p.m. How was that possible? I had been so lost talking to Mikey that I didn’t even realize how much time had gone by. Serena (panicking): Oh my gosh… I have to head home. Of all days, time had to choose today to fly. So not fair. Mikey (worried): Is something wrong? Serena: No, no, but I have to get home before my parents return. Mikey: Oh, that’s too bad… I was really enjoying your company. He’s so confident. Serena: Yeah, me too. I’m glad I met you. Mikey: Same. How about I walk you home? Serena: Are you sure? It’s quite late already. Mikey: I don’t mind. In fact, I’d love to. He’s such a gentleman. Just play it cool. Serena: Ok… then let’s go. He’s such a gentleman. Ok, girl, just play it cool. I borrowed the history book from the library, and we left immediately. As we walked down the quiet streets of Lilly Hills, I tried my best not to stare at him—and at the same time, keep myself from tripping. Mikey, on the other hand, was completely relaxed, hands in his pockets as the gentle breeze blew through his hair. Serena (thinking): Focus… don’t trip over your own feet, and stop staring like a creep. Mikey: You’re quiet all of a sudden… nervous? Serena: No, just… thinking. Oh my gosh… he totally noticed. Mikey (laughing): You know, it’s cute how you smile when you’re nervous. Serena: Really? I never knew. Mikey (staring at Serena): Well, now you know. Serena: Uhm… thanks. What just happened? I feel like I’m going to explode right now. The rest of the way was just small talk and jokes. It felt like I had known him forever. He was so easy to talk to—so sweet and gentle. A little too good to be true. Soon, we arrived in front of my house, and we exchanged numbers. Serena: We’re here… this is my house. Mikey: No need to thank me—I was just stating the fact. Serena (blushing): And… thanks for walking me home. Mikey (smiling): Once again, no problem. So… see you around? Serena: Yeah… see you around. Mikey: Bye, and have a good night. Serena (waving): Byyee. I took the key from the usual spot, opened the door, walked in, and shut it behind me. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. It felt so unreal. Maybe I’m just dreaming… (I pinched myself.) Ouch. Yep, definitely awake. I walked up to my room and flopped onto my bed, hugging my pillow and smiling. I don’t think I’ve ever blushed this much… well, except when I see hot fictional characters. I’ve never been the girly girl who wears all pink and blushes over every cute boy I see—that’s Laura’s job. Laura would laugh and tease me so much if she heard about this. She’d probably say something like, “So the nerd finally fell in love.”I barely even wear gowns or skirts, but here I was, blushing and thinking about a cute guy I met in the library and knew next to nothing about. What is wrong with me?
