Ashley's frustration boiled over as she stood on the side of the road, watching the driver's futile attempts to fix the car. Fifteen minutes had passed, and she was now running severely late for her interview. The darkening clouds unleashed a torrent of rain, soaking her clothes and hair. Desperate, she tried flagging down passing vehicles, but none stopped. It was as if the universe had conspired against her.
"Why me? Why today?" she muttered to herself, her voice laced with exasperation. She glared at the driver, who was still tinkering with the engine, seemingly oblivious to her distress. "What's taking so long? Can't you see I'm drowning over here?"
As the rain drummed against the roof, she let out a sob, feeling the stress and anxiety overwhelm her. "I was supposed to be on time, make a good impression... now I'm soaked, stranded, and late!" She scowled at her reflection in the window, her mascara running, her hair a tangled mess.
Glancing at her watch, she groaned, realizing she was now 30 minutes late. The interview was likely still ongoing, and she was missing her chance. The driver's ineptitude and the cruel weather conspired against her, crushing her hopes. She felt like she was watching her dreams slip away, helpless to stop it.
As the rain continued to pour down, Ashley's despair deepened. She felt like the universe was conspiring against her, and she was powerless to stop it. "Why, why, why...?" she whispered, her voice lost in the rain's rhythmic beat.
She slumped against the seat, her eyes fixed on the driver, willing him to fix the car, to make it all better. But he just shook his head, his expression a mixture of frustration and apology. "I'm sorry, miss. I don't know what's wrong with it."
Ashley's anger and frustration boiled over. "You don't know what's wrong with it? You're the one who's supposed to fix it! I'm going to be late, I'm going to miss my chance... all because of you!"
The driver looked taken aback by her outburst, but Ashley didn't care. She was beyond reason, beyond calm. She was a storm of emotions, raging against the universe's cruelty.
As the rain showed no signs of letting up, Ashley's tears mingled with the droplets on her face, her heart heavy with disappointment and despair. She was trapped, stuck in this broken-down car, stuck in this miserable moment, with no escape
As the rain finally began to let up, Ashley pulled out her phone and tried to book another ride. She was relieved when she managed to get a new driver quickly, and she gratefully accepted the offer. "Thank you so much!" she exclaimed, relieved to be on her way again. She gave the driver the address and settled in for the ride, her mind racing with thoughts of the interview and how she was going to make up for lost time.
As the car drove, Ashley found herself talking to herself as if she were the one behind the wheel. "Come on, come on, step on it! We can make it, we can make it!" She urged the driver to go faster, willing the car to fly if possible. Though she knew it was futile, her anxiety and desperation got the better of her.
As she sat in the car, she tried to compose herself, arranging her hair and reapplying her mascara. She was still flustered, but make a good impression, no matter how late she was.
The car halted in front of the company, and Ashley burst out of the door, almost forgetting to pay the driver. "s**t!" she muttered, hurrying back to hand him his fare. "Sorry about that!"
With a deep breath, she rushed towards the company entrance, her heels clicking on the pavement. In her haste, she didn't notice the person walking in the opposite direction and collided with them, landing on her butt with a thud.
Apologies and embarrassed laughter filled the air as Ashley quickly scrambled to her feet, brushing herself off. Her dignity bruised, but she refused to let it dampen her spirits. She took a deep breath, straightened her shoulders, and marched into the company, ready to face whatever lay
Ashley spotted the receptionist and quickly approached her with a bright smile. "Hi, I'm here for the interview," she said, trying to sound confident and enthusiastic.
The receptionist looked at her with a nasty expression, her thoughts clearly broadcasting her disdain. "You're late," she said bluntly, her tone implying that Ashley was irresponsible and unprofessional.
Ashley pleaded with her, "Please, just let me try my luck. I know I'm late, but I really need this opportunity."
The receptionist raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. "The interview is almost over, but I'll direct you to the floor where it's being held." She gestured towards the elevator, her demeanor dismissive.
Ashley took the elevator, praying to God for a chance. As the doors opened, she stepped out and saw someone exiting an office. She approached the lady at the front desk, hoping against hope.
"Hi, I'm here for the interview," Ashley said, trying to sound confident.
The lady looked at her with a mix of irritation and disbelief, but also a hint of surprise at Ashley's stunning appearance. "How may I help you? Or do you have an appointment here?" she asked, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
In her mind, the lady thought, "why is she so beautiful, that won't get her the job though. And she's late? Please, she must think we're desperate."
Ashley explained her situation, but the lady laughed to herself before delivering the final blow. "We don't hire irresponsible people at our company. The interview is over, and the last candidate was the one you saw leaving. Please leave."
Ashley tried to explain, but the lady dismissed her with a wave of her hand, showing no interest in her story. After a minute of silence, the lady repeated, "The interview is over. Please leave."
Ashley turned to walk out, feeling defeated and disappointed. Tears began to fall from her eyes as she realized her chance was gone.✨
