✨Julian’s office ✨
Julian stood in his office, gazing out the window at the city below, sipping his coffee in silence. His eyes were distant, lost in thought, but his awareness of his surroundings was palpable. He was a man who was always in control, always aware.
Downstairs, Emily was busy preparing the seven applicants for the interview. She had carefully selected them from a pool of hundreds, and now she was making sure they were all in place. She addressed them with a firm but friendly tone, explaining the process and what to expect. Then, she excused herself to seek permission from Julian to proceed.
As she walked to his office, she prayed silently that Julian would find one of the applicants competent enough to be his assistant. She knocked on the door, and after a pause, Julian's voice called out, "Come in."
Emily entered the office, knowing better than to expect eye contact from Julian. He was buried in his laptop, his fingers flying across the keyboard. She began to speak, her voice clear and concise, explaining the status of the interview and seeking his guidance on how to proceed.
Julian's voice was low and even, his instructions precise. "Ask them about their experience in management, Emily. Ask them to describe a time when they had to handle a difficult situation. And make sure what's on paper corresponds to their answers."
He paused, his fingers still typing away. "Also, do a little character test on them. See how they react under pressure. I want to know who can think on their feet and who will crack under the weight of responsibility."
Emily nodded, knowing exactly what he meant. "And after the interview, ask them to wait for a while. I'll be watching from the cameras in the interview room, and I'll need some time to review the footage and your report before making a decision."
With that, Julian's attention returned to his laptop, and Emily knew she was dismissed. She left the office, her mind racing with the tasks ahead and the weight of responsibility on her shoulders.
Emily sat in the interview room, hoping she could handle the process well enough to find the perfect candidate. She took a deep breath, glanced at the files in front of her, and called out the name of the first applicant: "Ethan Brown."
Ethan , a tall and confident young man, walked in and shook Emily's hand firmly. She was impressed by his excellent school grades and CV, and she began the interview by asking him about his experience in management.
"So, Ethan, can you tell me about a time when you had to handle a difficult team member?" Emily asked, her pen poised over her notes.
Ethan thought for a moment before responding, "Well, in my previous role, I had a team member who was consistently late and underperforming. I sat down with him, explained the expectations, and worked with him to create a plan to improve his performance. It took some time, but eventually, he started meeting deadlines and contributing to the team."
Emily nodded, impressed. "That's great to hear. How do you handle conflicting priorities and tight deadlines?"
Ethan hesitated slightly before answering, "I prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance, and I'm not afraid to ask for help when needed."
Emily smiled, making a note on his file. "Good answer. Can you tell me about a time when you had to think outside the box to solve a problem?"
Ethan thought for a moment before responding, "In my previous role, we had a client who was unhappy with our service. I listened to their concerns, brainstormed with my team, and came up with a solution that exceeded their expectations."
Emily was impressed, but she also noticed that Ethan struggled with some of the more abstract questions, like "How do you define success?" and "Can you describe a situation where you had to adapt to a new process?"
After the interview, Emily thanked Ethan and asked him to wait outside while she reviewed her notes. She called in the next applicant, a quiet and reserved young woman and repeated the process, making sure not to repeat any questions and also doing a little character test on each of them.
As the interviews went on, Emily was impressed by some of the applicants, but none of them stood out as much as the last one, a petite and good-looking lady named Maya. Maya answered Emily's questions with ease, and she even impressed Emily with her creative solutions to the character test.
"Maya can you tell me about a time when you had to work with a difficult team member?" Emily asked, already knowing the answer from her file.
Maya smiled. "Well, Emily, I believe that every team member has something valuable to offer. I would listen to their concerns, identify their strengths, and work with them to create a plan that leverages their skills and addresses their weaknesses."
Emily was taken aback by Maya’s answer. She had never heard anyone respond so thoughtfully and empathetically. She asked Maya a few more questions, and each answer impressed her more and more.
As the interview ended, Emily thanked Maya and smiled. "We'll be in touch soon, Maya. Thank you for coming in today."
Emily gathered her notes and headed back to her office, feeling hopeful that she had finally found someone Julian might consider for the job.
Emily returned to her office to work on her report, meticulously detailing each applicant's strengths and weaknesses. She spent hours refining her recommendations, ensuring she presented the best candidates to Julian. Finally, she headed to his office, report and files in hand.
As she entered, Julian was on a call, his frown lines deepening with each passing moment. His tone was firm, but Emily detected a hint of frustration. She waited patiently, knowing better than to interrupt. When he finally hung up, he looked up at her, his expression still tense.
"Emily, your report," he said, taking the files from her.
Emily nodded, watching as Julian scanned her reports, his eyes scanning the pages with intensity. After a few moments, he looked up, his gaze piercing.
"why did you recommend these two candidates in your report?" he asked, his tone firm but curious.
Emily took a deep breath, launching into a detailed analysis of each candidate's performance during the interview. She highlighted their strengths, weaknesses, and her overall impression. When she mentioned Maya, her voice grew more enthusiastic.
"Maya, sir, was exceptional. She demonstrated a unique understanding of our company's needs and offered innovative solutions. Her character test results were impressive, and I believe she would be an excellent fit for the role."
Julian listened intently, his expression softening slightly. "Bring Maya in for an interview with me," he instructed. "And inform the other candidate that we'll be in touch soon, but they can go home for now."
Emily nodded, relieved that her recommendations had been well-received. "Yes, sir. I'll bring Maya in right away."✨
