Goddess

April’s POV "My child, awaken," I hear a soft voice call to me. I open my eyes to find that I'm in paradise. The place is full of flowers, plants, and trees that I have never seen here. A waterfall lies ahead of me with the clearest water. Sitting along the shore are two figures, the moon goddess, Selene, and Bastet, the goddess of fierce protection and wild cats. I walked towards them, and Sky suddenly appeared behind them, resting her head in Bastet's lap. Once I'm close, they begin to speak again. "Sweet child, we know you have questions, and we will try to answer them, but there is limited time here for you, so let us start, shall we?" Selene gets straight to the point, her voice as gentle as a moonbeam but with an undercurrent of authority. "You are a special white panther because there is about to be unrest within the were-world," Bastet tells me, her voice a low purr that I can feel in my chest. "What's going to happen and how am I meant to stop it as a white panther?" I'm taken aback by how easily they seem to be in trouble in the were-world; we are their children. Selene's expression softens, a maternal warmth radiating from her. "You are our child, and because of that, we cannot simply let this come to pass. The unrest Bastet speaks of is a shadow that has been growing for centuries, a faction of creatures who have forsaken the old ways. They believe that might is the only right, and they seek to enslave others. "They are the same creatures who attacked your family, the rogues who have grown in number and in power, festering in the shadows." Bastet's gaze, fierce and unyielding, focuses on me. "Your unique form is no accident, child. The white fur is a symbol of the purity of your soul, a vessel of both the wild and the divine. Your silver eyes, a reflection of Selene’s moonlight, connect you to all the were-creatures. You are a bridge, a beacon. You are meant to bring the disparate shifter clans together—wolves and panthers, bears and lynx—to stand as one against this encroaching darkness. Your destiny is to unite the were-world before it tears itself apart." "So will Sky and I have powers of both worlds—panther and wolf?" I ask, my voice a whisper, the weight of their words settling over me. The thought of being a "bridge" was overwhelming, but the question of my own abilities felt more immediate, more personal. Selene and Bastet exchange a knowing glance. It's Bastet who answers, her voice a low, rumbling comfort. "Your unique upbringing with the Crestmoon pack has given you a wolf's strength and a wolf's loyalty—a pack mentality forged in training and love. These traits are now a part of you, as much as the instincts of your panther form. "And yet," she continues, gesturing to Sky, who is purring contentedly, "you have the panther's stealth, speed, and agility". You are a blend of both worlds, a culmination of everything that made you. You are a creature of grace and brute force, of solitary instinct and pack unity. You have the heart of a panther and the soul of a wolf, a perfect fusion of both our creations. That, sweet child, is how you will bring them all together." "So can I achieve this?" I ask, my voice barely above a whisper, the curiosity and an overwhelming sense of responsibility battling inside me. I look from Bastet to Selene, seeking reassurance that I am capable of such a monumental task. Selene’s gentle smile radiates warmth, a comfort that reaches deep into my soul. "With the help of your mate, my sweet child," she says softly, her eyes twinkling with a knowing light. Bastet adds, her purr a deep, reassuring vibration that travels up my paws and through my body, "Your mate will be a reflection of the unity you are meant to create. They will not be a lone wolf or a solitary panther, but a kindred spirit whose own strength complements yours. With them, your abilities will be amplified. Their presence will awaken a new kind of power within you, a divine link between two souls that will be the first true bond of this new era of were-kind. You cannot do this alone, nor were you ever meant to. "Your mate is the missing half of your destiny." "April, awake, sleepy head! "It's time to get ready for the ball." I'm suddenly jolted awake, the ethereal paradise of my dream dissolving into the familiar, sunlit reality of my bedroom. The scent of lavender from the sachet on my nightstand replaces the fresh, earthy smell of the gods' garden. My mom and Luna Mary are standing over me, their faces full of a vibrant, contagious excitement that I can't quite match. "Your daddy and the boys have gone to get ready, so we have the packhouse to ourselves," Mom says, a broad, energetic smile on her face. "Now, come on! We've got a lot of prepping to do for our grand entry!" The words "mating ball" now feel heavy with a new kind of weight, a gravity that wasn't there before. A few hours ago, it was just a chance for my brothers and Jacob to finally find their partners, a night of dancing and celebration. Now, the stakes are so much higher. My mate isn't just a partner; they're the missing piece of a divine puzzle, the key to fulfilling my destiny. The thought of this unknown person, this other half of my soul who holds the power to save our world, sends a shiver of nervous anticipation through me. I slowly got out of bed, my mind still replaying the goddesses' words. The champagne-colored dress hanging in my closet is no longer just a beautiful outfit. It's my armor. The heels, which Sky assured me we could handle, are a symbol of my new grace and strength. As my mom and Luna Mary excitedly led me to the bathroom, chattering about hairstyles and makeup, I felt a sense of overwhelming responsibility settle over me. I'm no longer just April, the adopted panther of the Beta family. I'm a bridge, a beacon, a creature destined to unite the were-world. And tonight, at this ball, I'm going to meet my destiny.
