Torturous Triangle

His smile

"HI Zach," I say smiling up at him. Calling him tall is the understatement of the century. I notice his eye on Shane's hand. I snake my hand free and shove them in my pocket and thankfully, Shane takes the hint and excuses himself.

I turn to Zach and his giving me a very disapproving look. "what?" I ask, confused. He shakes his head, almost as if to shake his mind free of whatever it was he was thinking. Weird.

I wait for him to be done. Once he looks at me, I ask politely, "did you need me for something?"

"uh.. No, just wanted to say hi" he says brightly. I smile widely "hi" I say to which he smiles back. So two goofs are standing in the middle of the school grounds, smiling at each other. My cheeks hurt but I can't stop smiling. I faintly hear the bell ring and notice my friends waiting for me. I clear my throat "Zach I need to go to class, it was nice to see you again" and turn to walk away. He blocks my way, "what?" I ask again, "is he your boyfriend?"

Confused, "Who?" I ask. He bobs his head towards my friends, he means Shane. I laugh a little, remembering what Shane had said and then shake my head.

"No he isn't my boyfriend" I say and look at him square in the eye and then say "I'm interested in one particular person Zach, no one else." his shocked expression lasted only a second before he smiled at what I had just said.

"OK then, Good!" and he walks off to leave, not before screaming at me, "get home early, I'm coming over!"

I had a goofy smile plastered on my face for the next three hours of school. The three hours hadn't even been a problem because I had been lost in yet another day dream of what if's and if only's. I couldn't help myself. His deep forest green eyes and sharp nose, paired with his slight plump pink lips, and don't forget his straight brown hair, that glistened a shade of gold in the sun. He was one of the most eligible guys in our town, along with his 2 bigger brothers. Everyone expected great things from his family. As his father was a well respected doctor and aided the sick, whenever he could, even at his own expense.

School was over and we all headed out. Roxy and Chloe waved as we walked our separate ways. Cade and Shane stood beside me. I was about to say goodbye to them too, when Shane pulled out his lasted album purchase, and I slapped myself on the head while saying "s**t" repeatedly. He folded his arms and gave me that look that said, seriously? "I'm sorry Shane, I forgot but it's fine, you can still come over, Cade, you're coming anyway, right?" giving Cade the best puppydog eyes I could muster. "I was coming for the food" Cade replied and I beamed! So we made our way to my place, about 5 minute walk, talking about Shane's new album. Cade and Shane loved music. All the time. They listened to every genre invented.

As we got home, I yelled "ma, I'm home"

"in the kitchen" she yelled back. I make my way to the kitchen and come out with 3 fresh bowls of my mums famous Pasta. I hand them over to the guys and settle down to listen to this album. It's not that bad. I could Bob my head to it, because I don't dance. Just then, the front door swings open, revealing a smiling Zach, who is now frowning at the sight of Cade and Shane.

"uhm.. Hi.. Again.." he says but more awkward. I say hi and introduce him to the guys.

He leans down to my ear "Ava?" I freeze at the close proximity. My heart stops and I'm holding my breath. "can we talk quick?" he says, I just nod and move to the kitchen. I turn to look at him, "I thoughts he wasn't your boyfriend." he remarks. "he isn't." I simply state. "you shouldn't hang with guys who are expecting more from you" he counters. I stood, shocked in place. "1stly,they do not expect anything from me other than my friendship. 2ndly, you have no claim or right to be telling me who's company I should keep and 3rd, you're being a complete i***t and I think you should leave' I breathe out after my rant.

He just shook his head and left. Cade and Shane left soon after, sensing my mood was off. I was thankful to be alone.
