It Wasn’t Supposed To Be Like This

Chapter 14

*Xaviers point of view*

The flight to Colorado was short, Avery slept the whole way. I was able to make a few phone calls on the way to make sure everything was ready for our arrival. We had tons of things to prepare at the pack house, a nursery, a wedding, and her Luna ceremony.

“Sir we’re about to land, please fasten your seatbelt.” It was almost time to wake Avery up, I didn’t want to yet. She was sleeping so peacefully I can’t imagine how exhausting it is to grow a pup. I pulled my phone out to text my dad and make sure they made it to their flight on time. My father, Danielle, my beta, and my gamma were catching a later flight behind us so they could finish some paperwork. I felt the plane touching down.

“Hey princess it’s time to get up.” She didn’t budge. She must be sleeping really well.

“Avery baby it’s time to get up, we’re here.” She barely opened her eyes and looked at me.

“We’re here already?” She asked in her sleepy voice. I just smiled and nodded my head. She wiped away the drool that had been spilling from her mouth and sat up.

“Wow that was a short flight huh?” I just laughed. She was so cute when she was half asleep.

“Sir, you guys can leave now.” Another flight attendant came up and motioned for us to leave the plane.

“Thank you guys for the smooth flight.” I grabbed Averys hand and we made our way off the plane. Once we were outside I stopped to take a deep breath. Averys eye went wide taking in the scenery.

“Have you ever been out of Florida?” She shook her head no, this was a total change of scenery for her then.

“It’s beautiful here, and all the mountains. I love it.” I looked around to figure out where our chauffeur was and saw Daniel wake in the distance.

“There’s our ride princess let’s go.” We walked towards him.

“Welcome back Alpha we’ve missed you.” I hadn’t been in Colorado in over a year and honestly I missed it too, I was so happy to have been in Florida because I found Avery but nothing could compare to the mountains.

“Your stuff will be sent over to the pack house once it’s all sorted out, I’ve already asked Hunter to come and get your things so you guys could get home.” We made our way to the car, Daniel opened the door for us and we climbed in. Avery settled in next to me putting her head on my shoulder. It was good she was settling in, the drive to our house from here was roughly 3 hours. We started driving.

“Thank you Daniel for coming to get us but you didn’t have to.” Though they would usually come and get me from the airport I had insisted they didn’t, I want to give Avery some time to adjust to things here alone, but they insisted they would come and get us.

“Xavier, we need to pull over, I think I’m going to be sick.”I looked over at Avery who had her hand over her mouth, her face was pale.

“Daniel you heard the lady, please pull over.” He quickly stopped the car and Avery bolted out hitting Daniel as he was trying to open her door. I guess morning sickness was going to be a thing for her. We had been stopped for roughly 20 minutes before she finally stepped back into the car.

“Well this is going to be fun, we’re going to have to tell people sooner than I wanted to about the pregnancy.” I knew she was nervous about telling people and what they would think of her since it wasn’t my baby but she also couldn’t help the things that happened. I grabbed her hand and she laid her head back down on my shoulder, closing her eyes tight trying not to throw up again.

“I think we’re good to go now Daniel.” He took off again. We will have to go see the pack doctor as soon as we get back to try and get something for her nausea.

The rest of the drive to the pack house was quiet, Daniel took curves as slow as he could so he wouldn’t upset Averys stomach again. She laid peacefully on my shoulder until we pulled up the gates.

“Who’s with you?” I heard one of the guards ask as Daniel rolled down his window.

“It’s Alpha Xavier.” He nodded his head and opened the gates. Avery sat up and looked around. The pack house here was ten times bigger than the one in Florida.

“This is the official site for the Blue Horizon Pack, I know it seems like a lot but running it isn’t as hard as it may seem.” I didn’t want to overwhelm her too much since she was pregnant I didn’t think the stress would be good. At least she would have my sister and Francis to help her out once they got here. The car pulled to the front of the house and stopped.

“Are you ready princess?” She nodded her head and grabbed my hand, Daniel came around to open the door.

“Welcome home sir.” It felt so good to be back. In a few short hours my dad and sister would be back and we would start planning Avery’s Luna ceremony. Until then she needed to go rest.

*Averys point of view*

We pulled up to the pack house, it was huge. It almost resembled a mansion, maybe it was a mansion. All I knew is that it was huge. We got out of the car and walked up the stairs. I felt a sharp pain in my side, and fell down.

“Avery what’s wrong?” Xavier fell down to my side and wrapped me in his arms.

“I don’t know Xavier but something doesn’t feel right.” He picked me up and carried me the rest of the way inside. I tried to keep my eyes open but I couldn’t they became heavy and everything went dark.

“What’s going on where am I?” I looked around the room I could see medical equipment and I had an iv in my arm.

“Sir she’s awake, I think you should come now.” I could see someone in the corner their back towards me. Who was it? Who were they on the phone with?

“Don’t worry Luna, my names Garret, Xavier had me stay with you while you recovered.” Oh thank heavens I was still with Xavier and I was safe. I must be in the pack hospital. My eyes began to feel heavy again and I fell back asleep. I woke back up when I started to smell sage and pine, Xavier was here.

“Avery, are you okay?” I opened my eyes, he was looking at me with so much concern and care in his eyes.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be?” I felt like there was some big secret I didn’t know.

“Avery you’ve been asleep for a week. You passed out on our way into the house, at first I just brought you to my room to rest but after 24 hours had passed and you still hadn’t woke up I brought you to the pack hospital, you’ve been here since.” My eyes grew wide, I missed out on a whole week? Why did I pass out?

“How’s the pup?” He grabbed my hand and looked into my eyes. I couldn’t tell what he was going to say next.

“We don’t know, we haven’t looked yet, we needed to make sure you were okay first. The doctor is coming here shortly.” He was right soon enough a middle aged woman entered the room.

“Good afternoon Alpha, and Luna.” She looked at us both and bowed her head.

“We’re going to do a fetal exam now and figure out what’s going on and make sure the pup is okay.” She pulled my gown up and put some stuff on my belly before putting the wand on my belly and moved it around.

“Well, your pup looks extremely healthy, you’re about 10 weeks along now.” Ten weeks, I was 5 weeks along a week ago.

“I don’t understand she was only 5 weeks last week, how is that possible?” I knew wolf pups grew faster than the average human. But this was abnormally fast.

“You were 5 weeks along last week? That’s impossible. He must of had his measurements wrong.” My eyes grew wide. My powers, I had powers was this one of them?

“Xavier, my powers.” He shook his head, agreeing this was impossible. Well not impossible but this was a lot to wrap our heads around.

“So does this mean, the pup could be mine?” He was right, if the pup was growing at an abnormally fast it could be his.

“I don’t know Xavier, I think I need to talk to my mom and figure more stuff out.” He nodded his head and grabbed my phone.

“Listen I don’t care what you guys do but I think she needs to be on bed rest until we know what’s going on.” I didn’t want to be in bed rest. I had no idea how long this pregnancy would be, I could be in the bed for months.

“Yes doctor, I will personally make sure that she stays in bed.” He handed me my phone so I could call my mom. I called her and it went straight to voicemail.

M- hey mom it’s Avery, Um I need you to call me back and fast please, there’s something going on and we need answers.-

I hung up the phone and handed it back to Xavier.

“I would like to keep her here for a few more hours.” She left the room and Xavier walked over to me putting his hand on my belly. A smile on his face.

“This pup could be mine princess” I didn’t want him to get his hopes up, but a big part of me hoped it was his too. Just then Danielle came in.

“Hey big brother, and soon to be sister, how are things?” She glanced between me and him, she could tell something was going on. I guess we needed to tell her, I didn’t have Layla to talk to anymore I needed another girlfriend to trust and talk to.

“You might want to sit down it’s a long story.” She sat down in a chair and I began to explain everything to her from beginning to end, her eyes growing wide.

“That horrible man, if Xavier hadn’t gotten to him first I would go kill him myself.” I just smiled, I loved how protective she was over me already.

“On a good note though, I’m going to be an aunt!! Regardless of who the pups dad is, I will love them unconditionally because they come from you.” She walked over and hugged me, I breathed a sigh of relief. I’m glad she was supportive.

“I don’t want to tell anyone else right now until we find out who the pups father is. We actually need to ask the doctor when she comes back if there’s any way to test.” Xavier nodded his head and went to find the doctor. They came back together shortly.

“Since there’s isn’t any dna left from Zeke we will just send off some of Xaviers and the pup if he doesn’t come back a match then we know, the procedure to withdraw samples from the pup can be dangerous, are you sure you want to?” I nodded my head and she walked back out of the room. She came back a few minutes later.

“Okay, there’s a room ready. Let’s get you back there and get this done so you can rest.” Another nurse came in and put something in my iv, I felt my eyes grow heavy and I fell back asleep again.

*Xaviers point of view*

It’s been a few hours since they took her back to get samples from the pup. I hope everything is alright.

“Hey Alpha sorry to bother you but there’s some papers you need to sign.” I didn’t want to leave but I had duties to attend to.

“Don’t worry I’ll wait here for her brother.” Thank the heavens for Danielle. She always helping me out with no questions asked.

“Thank you Danielle, I’ll be back shortly, please call me when she gets back.” I followed Daniel back to the pack house,

“We have to make this quick I would like to be there when she gets back.” He nods his head as we step into my office. My dad is already sitting there waiting for me.

“There are some contracts you need to sign so we can begin construction for the new hotel, I want to make sure you’re happy with the blue prints.” I walk over to my desk and sit. I had totally forgotten about the hotel, I’ve been pushing it off for months between the rogue attacks, Avery being kidnapped, and he fight with Zeke it had completely slipped my mind.

“I want the pool moved to the top floor, that way it gets the best sunlight possible and make sure it’s covered. Other than that the plans look great.” He nodded his head and wrote it down in the contract before handing the papers to me.

“You just need to sign here, here, and here.” I signed the papers and got up to leave.

“Actually son there’s something else we need to discuss, there are rumors going around about Avery being pregnant is it true?” She didn’t want to tell anyone until after we found out who the father was, how did he already know?

“We didn’t want to tell anyone until we knew for sure, but there’s a chance the pup isn’t mine. With that the pup is growing at an abnormal rate she was 5 weeks last week and 10 weeks this week. We think the powers she has may be playing a roll with that.” He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.

“We need to keep this under wraps until we know for sure, when is she doing a paternity test?” I looked at him, and sighed.

“She’s actually in a procedure right not to get it done, then after that it’ll take about a week to get the results, we are only able to send my dna with the pups because there’s nothing left of Zeke.” He nodded his head and sat down.

“I know that it’s dangerous for her to do this but I’m happy she is so we can get answers, what happens if the pup isn’t yours? You can’t raise a bastard pup, I won’t allow it.” That made my blood boil, who was he to tell me what I was going to do?

“Actually, I will. She couldn’t help that she was r***d. I will raise and love this pup regardless of who’s it is. If it turns out to be Zekes, he’s no longer around, this pup will need someone to teach him how to be a man.” I raised my voice and arched my brow, he knew I was serious.

“Other people won’t look at you the same if you raise a pup that isn’t yours.” I didn’t wait for him to say anything else. I was furious and I just needed to be back with Avery now. I walked out of the house and across the yard to the hospital.

“She’s not out yet Xavier, they did just come and update though, everything seemed to have went smoothly, the baby’s heart rate did drop a couple of times but it wasn’t too alarming. They also told me that if you guys chose too, with the samples they just took you could find out the gender next week.” That was reassuring news, I would have to talk to Avery about what she would want though.

“Thank you Danielle, you can go if you need to.” She shook her head and sat back down.

“Sorry I’m not leaving until I know she’s okay too.” I also think she was secretly hoping to persuade Avery to find out the gender as soon as we could. Just then the door opened.

“Xavier I need you to come with me, somethings not right.” My heart dropped, please let her be okay.

“What’s going on?” I followed her out of the room and down the hallway.

“We were wheeling her into the recovery area when she started seizing, I don’t know what triggered it but something isn’t right.” We continued on down the hallway. I stopped right before we opened the door, I felt my heart being ripped out of my chest. I looked at the doctor as she quickly opened the door but all I heard was the heart monitor flatline.
