It Wasn’t Supposed To Be Like This

Chapter 6

*XAVIERS POINT OF VIEW*

I awake the next morning before her, looking at her beautiful face. I’m closer to her than I’ve ever been and I’m starting to notice small features I hadn’t before, freckles outlined her nose and she had a small scar right below her right eye. She was so beautiful and goodness did she smell so good. I hear my phone vibrate I roll over to see who is it.

Dad- Alpha Gregory is pissed I don’t know where you are but you need to get back here now, you’re an adult with responsibilities act like it.-

Oh s**t I had honestly forgotten about the rogue situation in the midst of my mate finally finding me. I needed to leave but I couldn’t just yet. I rolled back over her eyes now on me those beautiful blue eyes and I can’t help myself, I start to pepper kisses down her neck hearing her sigh in relief she needed me to touch her almost as bad as I needed her to touch me. I trail my hands up her shirt and hold on to one of her perfectly round breast gently pulling her n****e and making her moan, I thought her laugh was music to my ears but that delightful noise that just came out of her mouth took it to a whole new level, i felt a low growl escape my chest, Isaac letting me know he agreed. “I hate to do this but once we’re done with the shower I have to go love, duty calls and as much as I enjoyed it I spent way more time making love to you than I intended.”

She dropped her head I knew that disappointed her, once I felt the shower was warm enough we climbed in, I washed her hair and her body for her wanting to make sure I took extra care of her after our little adventure earlier, she just moaned and rolled her head around while I washed her. She was so beautiful and I just wanted to stay with her all day and lather her in kisses and make love but duty calls. Once I rinsed her off I washed myself having to use her girly body wash and shampoo since she didn’t have anything here for a guy yet. We finally got out of the shower and got dressed, she pulled on an oversized band t-shirt and a pair of gray sweats and threw her hair into a messy bun and I put my clothes from the night before back on.

“Alright it’s time for me to go, give me your phone for a second,” she handed it to me and I typed my number in,

”that’s my number make sure you call me if you need absolutely anything okay?” She nodded her head. I leaned down and kissed her forehead before walking out of her bedroom door, I didn’t want to leave my heart was already aching. I needed to let my dad know I was on my way.

Me-I’m headed that way now, some urgent matters had come up and I had to take care of it-

I hope he didn’t pry into the urgent matters, I would eventually have to tell him I had found my mate and her scent all over me would be hard to miss but if I tell them she’d have to come back now and I know she isn’t ready for that yet.

Dad- I don’t care what came up at this point in time nothing else comes before the current rogue matter at hand. Nothing else is more important than this.-

Isaac growled in my head

“Who is he to tell us what’s more important, we are the Alpha”

He wasn’t wrong we are the Alpha but there are humans being murdered in cold blood by rogues and we need to figure this out we’ve made no improvements nor have we gotten any leads on the matter. The drive back to the pack out was lonely and all I could think about was Avery and the moments we had together this morning, Isaac is mad at me for not marking her but I could see hesitation in her eyes and she didn’t try to mark me either and I didn’t want to pressure her.

Once I arrived at the pack house I could see my dad and Alpha Gregory standing there waiting. I took a deep breath as I stepped out of the car.

“Good morning father and Alpha” I bowed my head even though I was an Alpha myself I still had to show respect.

“Xavier” my dad just glared at me, I know what I did was a little immature my duty should always come first but if he understood why and who I did it for I don’t think he’d be upset with me but now isn’t the time.

“As much as I’d love for us to continue making small talk, we all know we have a larger issue at hand. The attacks are getting closer to the school and I’m afraid now it’s only a matter of time before the school itself is attacked.” Alpha Gregory wasn’t one to play around with urgent matters.

“Have we gotten any leads, do we know what they’re after in this area?” We began walking inside towards my office.

“They seem to be targeting younger girls, around the age of 18, but I don’t see a need for them unless they’re trying to use them to mate but why would they kill them if that’s what they’re wanting?” Hearing him say the target audience was young girls around Avery’s age made Isaac perk up.

“Could they be after mate?” I wanted to tell him no but it’s too much of a coincidence that she is just now eighteen and that’s the age they’re after.

“I don’t know Isaac but we can’t think about that right now, if we worry about her being the target we won’t be able to focus on anything else” he just growled he was worried and honestly so was I.

“Are any of you aware of any other wolfs residing in this area? Wolfs that potentially went rogue that are living normal lives amongst the humans?” My heart clenched I couldn’t tell them about her just yet.

“No, I’ve never even gotten a whiff of another wolf remotely close to this area.” I heard my dad say and I just shook my head. If they were after her we would have to move quick.

“We need to increase patrol and have a few of our warriors move into house amongst the neighborhoods, they’re working their way to the west, there are still plenty of neighborhoods left to be attacked. It’s been one neighborhood at a time and there are still 12 subdivisions that have yet to be invaded we need to send people there now!” I mind linked with Axel and within seconds he was in my office.

“Axel I need you to send warriors to these subdivisions” I handed him a map of all the places west of Sunset Valley that have yet to be attacked. Axel is my trusted Beta and a lifelong friend. I know for any and all of my needs I can count on him, he’s not yet mated so his attention is undivided to work and his duty to me.

“Yessir, are there any areas they need extra protection?” I hesitated, I didn’t want to tell them

“This place right here” I pointed to Avery subdivision,”Hawks Rest.”

He nodded his head and went to leave,”before you leave Beta, please make sure that some of our younger pack members get enrolled into Camden High if my theory is correct that’s where they’re headed.” And he shut the door.

I sighed, I needed to make sure that I kept her safe at all cost.

“Alpha Xavier?” I heard a knock on the door, who could be bothering me this early?

“Come in” just then one of the Omegas that works in the kitchen walked in.

“Sorry to bother you guys but breakfast is ready” she kept her head bowed, I have never told them that aren’t allowed to look at me but they insist that it’s more respectful if they don’t.

“Thank you, we’ll be down shortly” I heard my dad say curtly. He was always so rude to the other pack members of the house, more so the lower level wolfs and I couldn’t understand why, we weren’t all equal but our house couldn’t run smoothly if everyone felt that way. Just then my phone went off

?-hey it’s Avery, I just wanted to let you know I was about to head to school. I miss you already-

My sweet little mate, I missed her too but I couldn’t respond at this time I needed to go eat and then head to train.

“Levi, I want you to go your hardest on me today” I look at my strongest warrior now in the pack gym ready to fight and relieve some anger. They were getting to close to Avery and it made me uneasy.Levi tried to move at me while I was lost in thought but I was quick on my feet and easily dodged his advance quickly taking my right leg and knocking his feet out from under him, we fought back and forth for what seemed like hours and I was getting tired and hungry.

“Alright that’s a wrap today Levi I have some other business I need to attend to” as my stomach growled letting him know that business was eating. He arched an eyebrow.

“Are you sure you want to give up now Alpha?” He asked me as he took another pose and went to hit me again. I quickly caught his fist in my hand and swung him around to put him in a choke hold.

“I’m sure Levi” I wasn’t weak and I’ve been training everyday since I was 10 years old, my dad pushed for me to constantly train that way I would always be ready. The Blue Horizon pack was fairly large with 300 members living on our pack grounds here in Florida, and another 400 living on our grounds in Colorado, we didn’t have many issues here or in our other pack territory which is why I was so easy for me to leave, and come here and take care of this issue. I stay in Colorado mostly coming to visit the Florida territory for summer vacations. I released my hold on Levi. When I felt my phone go off.

A- me and Layla are headed back to my house for the rest of the day-

I took a deep breath at least I knew she was safe at home.

M-okay be safe please, I will probably come back by later to talk with you more about what we’re going to do moving forward-

I made my way into the pack house dining hall, taking a deep breath I could smell beef stroganoff cooking, one of my favorites.

“Here you go Alpha” one of the omegas brought me a plate.

“Thank you Beth” she glanced up and gave me a wide smile, probably surprised I knew her name. When my dad was Alpha he wasn’t too kind to the staff around the house and he hardly made time to learn their names, he wasn’t a weak leader but he wasn’t the strongest which eventually lead into an attempt to over throw him. They didn’t succeed and a few years later I took over, increasing our numbers. As our numbers grew the more people started to respect me and with me having such high authority the way I treated other members of the house even the lower level omegas caught on and soon everyone treated each other with respect. There were a few people who still stood behind my dad and weren’t very kind but as long as those number were far and few I didn’t mind. Not everyone has to change. I spent the rest of my day in my office going over plans for the potential war that could start if we didn’t get a handle on this rogue situation soon. When it was getting closer to 5 I decided it was time to go ahead and shower and head towards Avery’s house.

“Axel, I will be heading out shortly to take care of some business in town, please let me know once you have warriors in those areas I asked you to.”

“Yes Alpha, we are currently putting the groups together now and decided which warriors need to go where”

“I knew I could count on you, I feel like at some point soon someone is going to have to go to the school and let them know it won’t be safe to continue in person classes for a little bit I just hope we can stop it before it gets to that”

I cut the link off and hopped into the shower,thoughts of me and Avery came flooding into my head from this morning making me stand at attention, I had to relive myself. Once I was done I quickly washed my body and got out. I needed to get to her now.

“Mates lonely without us I can feel it”

Isaac couldn’t feel anything but we were lonely without Avery and he wanted to pretend we were strong.

“Oh yes Isaac she’s so lonely without us, we’re definitely not the ones missing her” sensing my sarcasm he growled at me and I couldn’t help but chuckle.

I quickly got dressed I went for a more casual look today putting on my favorite gray sweat pants and a black t-shirt that slightly hugged my biceps making me look more muscular than I am, I then put on my gold chain my mom gave me before she disappeared and my favorite nikes and went back downstairs.

“Lucas I will be leaving for a little bit, I should be back home tonight but let the kitchen staff know not to save me any food” he nodded his head at me and I walked out the door.
