Chapter 10 Despite her threats, Beau’s mom hadn’t cleared out his bedroom and turned it into an office. That was a relief, he thought, flinging his duffel onto the floor. The guest bed was horridly uncomfortable, and if he’d had to sleep there, he might have given consideration to bunking out on the wreck-room sofa. Which would have meant sleeping with Sassy, his mother’s elderly poodle. His room seemed somewhat smaller than it had before, constrained within the walls where he’d grown up, smothered by his hometown. At the same time, it was emptier. Those things that made him himself were already gone; posters taped up in his dorm room, his knickknacks and clothes were strewn about some six hundred miles, two hours on a plane, three hours in security lines and baggage check away.
