They drove to Nathaniel's rented mansion on Bayshore Drive without speaking, perhaps to shield their progressing intimacy from the ears and eyes of the bodyguards in the front and back of the van. The bodyguards also remained quiet. Ryan understood that they never spoke, unless Nathaniel addressed them.
Nathaniel and Ryan were dropped off at a copper gate with a gorgeous patina decorating the entrance courtyard to the home. The gate was an Art Deco creation featuring swans and ducks with gracefully curved necks. A butler, dressed in a suit instead of a tuxedo, opened the gate and reached for Ryan's bags.
"They were already searched in the van," Nathaniel said, motioning to the butler to allow Ryan entry without interruption. "He's clean."
