Chrysan’s POV
As soon as Jairo received the message from Daphne that they’ve rescued Reikkie, we immediately descend here to their so-called headquarters. Of course, I’m glad that they’ve rescued Reikkie. It’s just that, I’m disappointed that I’m not the one who rescued her.
Instead of being grateful, why do I feel even worse? I haven't done anything.
“It’s alright, Chrysanthemum. You made a good job hanging in there,” Jairo encouraged me while riding in this tile elevator.
I just nodded at him as a response and as soon as we get out of the elevator, we were greeted by Daphne’s words.
“Listen, we will be the ones who will bring back the freedom to humanity. We will rise as a team but we will fall individually. That’s how life works. The strong will live and the weak will die… Always remember that,” she spoke while looking at my friends seriously.
“The strong will live and the weak will die,” I unconsciously repeated her words. “Then… I’m going to die?”
They all looked in our direction. Daphne gasped because of what she heard, and so did my other friends. I can feel that Jairo’s grip on my waist became tighter.
“No one’s going to die! Dying is only for bullshits!” Keith exclaimed and kicked one of the swivel chairs in here.
“You’re not dying, Chrys,” Daphne spoke and cupped my face.
“Daphne said only the weak, right? You’re not weak, Chrysy! You’re strong! So strong!” Sy cheered me while raising both of his fists.
averted my gaze and took Jairo’s support on me. I can barely manage from standing, I’ve been enduring this pain for a long time.
“Come on, don’t lie,” I mumbled and wiped the tears that fell from my left eye.
“Chrysan?” Vane called me but I didn’t respond.
“We knew from the start that I’m weak. I’m hopeless. We all know that I’m a burden. I didn’t do anything except be asleep for how many days. You suffered a lot because of me. That’s why…” I bit my inner cheek to stop myself from sobbing.
“That’s why… I completely understand if you don’t want to be friends with me anymore,” I said against my will as the tone of my voice decreases.
“What the heck are you saying?!” Xyxo’s the first one to react, while my other friends were left dumbfounded.
“I’m saying that I’ll only drag you down! Because I’m worthless! I’m powerless! I can’t do anything except for being a burden!” I exclaimed, making their eyes widen.
And that's what my mom said.
“Just… who said that you’re powerless? I’m going to beat his *ss off,” Keith seriously said and started cracking his bones in his fingers.
“Chrysan’s not powerless, she’s full of bravery. She saved me. I owe her my second life,” Jairo mumbled while biting his nails.
“What do you mean?” Daphne asked Jairo.
“She saved me from being stabbed. She’s a hero. We’re the ones who don’t deserve her. She’s so pure to be here in this cruel world,” he said while his knees are trembling and his eyes don't stay still.
I moved my hands forward and started shaking my head. “No! You’re wrong! I’m the one who doesn’t deserve you all,” I exclaimed for the last time.
“Shut up, Chrysan. Whatever you want to say doesn’t matter. We are a team here, whether you like it or not.” We looked in the direction where someone spoke.
“Reikkie!” I exclaimed and rushed in her direction. She’s sitting in a bed while her face was badly beaten. I was about to hug her when she moved away and pointed at my stomach.
“You’re bleeding,” she said in disgust while pointing to where my wound was.
“Jairo, cure Chrysan first. And you, Vane, do the task I assigned to you,” Daphne instructed while having sharp gazes on him.
Vane hissed and took one of the medicine kits above a cabinet and walked towards Reikkie’s direction while Jairo keeps looking at me.
“Why?” I asked him but he did not respond and placed his palm directly on my wound making me flinch.
My eyes sparkled when there was a green light coming from his palm and my wound started to feel better. While he was doing that, he started to mumble something.
“Healing Technique― 5th Form: Snake Coiled Around a Staff,” he whispered and a second passed when I saw a faint image of a snake coiled around a staff on his back but it disappeared right away.
I rubbed my eyes because I thought I was only seeing things. I’m back on my senses when the light from Jairo’s palm disappeared.
“What… was that?” I asked while my eyes were full of amazement.
Do they have powers?! Whoa.
“You forgot?!” Sythel unbelievable asked me. I just raised my brows and slowly nodded my head. Forgot what?
“That’s the reason why the public is looking for us,” Xyxo confidently said while eating a sandwich.
“Why do I need to do this?” I heard Vane complain and bring the medicine kit back to its place.
“My priority is the health of everyone,” Jairo muttered while looking at his palm that emits green light earlier.
“My body aches,” Reikkie tiredly said and rested her head on the bed while his lower body is on the floor.
“Then, let me explain to you,” Daphne smiled and look at me.
“We all have different abilities. It is due to the dr*g that’s been injected into us six months ago. Fortunately, it has only one vial available on each ability that the government contains. They chose us to be their first human tester, and their experiment succeeded. But, when I heard that they’re sending us to the front line, I instructed y’all to escape,” Daphne narrated.
“After that, the king put a bounty above our heads. They’ll give a price to those who managed to catch us. But thanks to our abilities, not a single being succeeds,” she continued.
So that’s the reason why are we living here like fugitives.
“Please tell me, your abilities!” I exclaimed like a kid. Daphne patted my head and started speaking again.
“I, Daphne Hollows, mastered the Camouflage Technique,” she introduced herself.
“I’m Sythel Weigner! Mastered the Art of Invisibility,” Sy said with full of energy.
“Keith Seinberg, mastered the Power Technique. Well, my ability revolves around strength, you know?” he smirked and crushed the apple he was eating using one hand.
Whoa!
“Xyxo Garnett, mastered eating!” My friends threw daggers looks at him because of what he said. He smiled awkwardly and raised a peace sign.
“I’ve mastered the Mechanical Technique,” he said and simply put the remaining sandwich in his mouth.
“Vane Lawson, mastered the art of being handsome,” he joked. My friends started throwing things at him and I can see that he was doing his best to shield himself while laughing out loud.
“Just kidding! I’ve mastered the Technology― Techonology Technique― stop!” he exclaimed while avoiding flying objects.
“Reikkie Zumstein, mastered the Art of Knowledge,” Reikkie said in a low voice and fixed her glasses.
“Jairo Young, mastered the Healing Technique. I’ll be your healthcare companion,” Jairo whispered but thankfully, I could manage to hear it.
They are all amazing. But… What about me? Do have an ability? I wandered my gaze inside this room and one thing caught my attention to the point that I couldn’t stop staring at it. Its vibrant orange color with a touch of yellow’s the reason why it stands out in this black and white room so much. It’s Chrysanthemum.
“I… Chrysanthemum Anderson, mastered the Floral Technique.”
