Chrysan’s POV
“Why did you follow me?!” Jairo shouted in a whisper when he noticed that I’m tailing him. His thin eyebrows furrowed while looking at me.
I'm going to lie if I will say that I'm not scared of Jairo being angry. He rarely talks and he is very calm even in difficult situations but now, he is shouting at me.
Despite how scared I am, I looked at him with full of determination. “I’m going to save Reikkie,” I said with a burning passion.
Now’s my chance to prove to them that I’m not a burden and I can do more except being bedridden. All my life, they’ve treated me as a baby. They didn’t want me to grow. I appreciate the thought but I know that I’m capable of doing some stuff too.
“It’s dangerous, Chrysanthemum!” he hissed.
I winced but I didn't back out. He’s like a father, disciplining his kid not to be involved in troubles.
“I know,” I answered and looked at the scene behind these cardboards we are hiding at.
There are a lot of guards, wearing their white overalls suit with those modified white guns, they have earpieces on their ears and they don’t move as if they’re a royal guard or something.
“Hey, why―” I didn’t finish my sentence when Jairo covered my mouth and we huddled in a narrow place to hide more securely.
I unconsciously stopped my breathing when I heard some footsteps approaching us. Not just one. Not two. Hundreds of footsteps!
My eyes widened when I saw them pass by. They were holding swords and guns. By the looks of it, I’m 100% sure that it was modified and it’s much stronger than any normal weapon. One strike and I'll be dead.
When they all passed through us, Jairo released my mouth. I unconsciously took a step back and almost lost my balance. I rested my hand on the wall so I'll not completely drop. I closed my eyes and inhaled and exhaled to catch my breath.
“Sorry for that sudden action. You shouldn’t be here in the first place,” Jairo spoke, maintaining his posture. I'm glad he's back in the usual him.
“By the way, are you okay?” he asked me concernedly.
I looked at him using my peripheral vision while still catching my breath. “It’s okay, I can manage. I’ll save Reikkie... even if I need to die,” I seriously said making him shiver.
“We'll save Reikkie so please don't die,” he said while shaking.
But I just did.
I raised my head when I sensed something. I grabbed Jairo and pushed him to the other side to protect him. “Someone’s coming,” I informed.
“Falcon! I’m tired of waiting! How long?!” a deep voice exclaimed. I peeked on the small agape from where we are hiding at.
There’s a blonde-haired guy but he looks young than us. He’s younger but I can sense the strong knowledge and power flowing in him. His eyebrows are furrowed and he’s wearing a red robe over his white polo. I gasped when I saw him look in our direction.
Those eyes… They’re like my father’s.
“Why the heck there’s a pile of cardboard over there?! I ordered loud and clear that papers and cardboards are prohibited in this city so what is that thing doing there?!” he shouted while pointing in our direction.
This guy... has some serious anger issues.
I was about to freak out when Jairo pressed his index finger on my lips to shut me and restrain me from screaming. I swear, this guy's a big deal! Even I get goosebumps from him. He’s a monster!
“I’m sorry, King Alvis. We will dispose of it right away,” one of the guards said and bowed in front of that child.
What did he say? King? Is that thing even exist?
"Chrysan, we need to get out of here,” Jairo whispered from the back of my ear.
My eyes widened when I heard footsteps that got louder and louder. Yeah, that’s right. They’ll dispose of this pile of cardboard where we’re hiding at. Maybe if they'll get the chance, they will dispose of us too.
“At the count of three, you’ll run. Understood?” Jairo ordered in a low voice.
I nodded against my will. If that’s what Jairo said, then it’s maybe for the best. I positioned myself and acted as if I was ready to run. Jairo looked at me and nodded as a signal.
The moment someone removed one cardboard, Jairo greeted him with a kick on his chest causing him to smash on the wall. The other guards were alarmed because of what happened and they kept rushing toward Jairo.
“Protect the king!” one of the guards exclaimed and they formed a circle around the guy who’s having lazy eyes as if it was just nothing to him.
“Three!” Jairo screamed making me panic. He didn’t even count!
He kept resisting the guards' attack. I don’t know what to do! I’m scared and I want to run, but at the same time, I want to help Jairo. I want to help our older brother who’s caring for us more than he cared for himself.
“Run, Chrysan! Run!” he exclaimed as he received punches from the guards.
“No!” I responded with full courage and picked up the steel bar resting on the corner of this room.
“Chrysanthemum!” he thundered in a warning tone as he kicked one of those guards.
“I won’t leave you here! Not here!” I said out loud and started striking everyone who was trying to attack me. I spun the round steel bar in my hand and smirked.
“Chrysan, just listen! Run!” he shouted once again, I could see the veins bludging on his neck.
“I said no!” I stubbornly answered and started kicking those guards here.
When I looked in Jairo’s direction, my eyes widened when I saw someone was about to stab him from the back.
“Jairo!” I exclaimed his name and run as fast as I could in his direction. I immediately pushed him, for him to roll on the marble floor.
I groaned and wailed when my body received the cold sharp metal. I could taste the metal flavor of blood in my mouth and my chest was throbbing in pain. I touched my stomach where I feel the pain was coming from. I looked at my palm, my eyes became blurry due to my tears when I saw there was a red liquid on it. Suddenly, when the pain worsen, I vomited. Not food, but blood.
“Chrysan!” I could hear Jairo but my vision’s getting blurry too.
All I’d seen before I blacked out was a pair of a guy's shoes. “You’re coming with me.”
