Less than ten minutes passed before a fist hammered against the lab door. I opened it. Julian stood there, haggard and wrecked. He had aged years in a matter of hours. His suit was crumpled, his hair was a mess, and his eyes shot through with red. The arrogance that used to cling to him was gone. A few steps behind him stood Chloe. Her face was ashen, and her makeup was smeared by tears that still streaked down her cheeks. The smugness had been wiped clean off her.
