Chapter Seven: The Goddess’s Betrayal

570 Words
Selene awoke to the warmth of silk sheets and the heavy weight of Azrael’s arm draped over her waist. A soreness between her legs reminded her of last night—the night she gave herself to the man she was meant to destroy. She was supposed to be gone by now. She was supposed to have ended him. But the knife she had hidden beneath her pillow was no longer there. She had thrown it away. Selene turned her head slightly. Azrael was still asleep beside her, dark lashes resting against his pale skin. His face was relaxed, peaceful in a way that made it hard to believe he was the feared Demon Lord. How could someone so dangerous look so... human? No. Not human. He was still a demon. And she? She was the daughter of a goddess. She had been created for a purpose. To destroy him. And yet—he held her like she was his salvation. Selene exhaled slowly. The heavens would never forgive her for what she had done. She had fallen into the arms of the enemy. But for the first time, she didn’t want to escape. She wanted to stay. --- Embracing the Role of His Queen As Selene stepped out of Azrael’s chambers, she expected the guards and maids to glare at her with suspicion. Instead— “My lady,” a demon maid with soft lavender eyes bowed. “Good morning.” My lady? Selene had barely recovered from her shock before another maid approached with a bright smile. “Did you rest well? Our Lord seemed... possessive last night.” Selene’s face burned. The maids giggled. “Enough,” a deep voice rumbled behind her. Selene turned, and Azrael was there. Tall. Unbothered. A shadow of power wrapped in dark robes. The maids scattered instantly. Azrael smirked. “Did they tease you, little goddess?” Selene glared. “You’re insufferable.” Azrael tilted his head. “And yet, you stayed.” His fingers brushed against hers, deliberate. Selene didn’t pull away. Azrael’s smirk deepened. --- Winning the Hearts of the Demons Days passed. Selene no longer felt like an outsider. The guards, once wary of her presence, now acknowledged her with respectful nods. The maids, once distant, now adored her. They laughed with her. Shared stories with her. She had come here as an executioner. Now? She was their queen. And strangely—she didn’t mind it. --- A Moment of Realization Late one evening, Selene stood alone in the palace gardens, staring at the night sky. The heavens she had once belonged to felt so far away. “You’ve changed,” Azrael’s voice broke the silence. Selene turned. Azrael stood beside her, his crimson eyes glowing under the twin moons. "You don’t flinch when I touch you anymore,” he mused. “You don’t look at me like a monster.” Selene swallowed. "Does that bother you?" Azrael’s gaze darkened. “No. It only makes me want to ruin you more.” Selene’s breath hitched. Azrael chuckled, tilting her chin up with his fingers. “Stay with me, Selene. Truly stay.” Stay. Not as an assassin. Not as a goddess’s weapon. But as his queen. Selene searched his face for deceit—but she found none. She didn’t answer right away. But when Azrael pulled her into his arms that night, she didn’t resist. --- End of Chapter.
