Jason stumbled through snow that reached his ankles, one hand pressed against his bleeding eye socket, the other steadying his injured leg as he pushed onward. The blizzard raged around him, slashing visibility to almost nil. Occasionally, a zombie would lurch out from the shadows, its hoarse growls freezing his heart. Flattening himself against the icy walls, he held his breath, waiting for the undead to shuffle away before daring to move again. His injuries were tormented by the merciless cold, flesh rotting and stiffening with frost, tearing open at each movement. Blood leaked from his wounds, freezing into tiny crystals upon hitting the snow. Hunger gnawed at him, thirst parched him, and the cold bit into his very core.
