The Hidden Library was quiet, but alive. Crystals floated lazily in the golden light, and runes shimmered on the walls. Aria flipped through a floating book, trying to make sense of the swirling symbols.
“Aria, you look like you’re trying to eat the entire book in one bite,” Zara said, leaning over her shoulder.
“I’m… learning,” Aria muttered. “We need to know what we’re dealing with.”
Mina rolled her eyes. “Or we could just run whenever something tries to eat us.”
Leo didn’t comment. He was focused on the shadows that danced faintly along the ceiling.
A Mysterious Presence
Suddenly, a warm glow appeared near the far wall. A figure hovered above the floor, small and human-shaped but made entirely of light. Wings shimmered on its back, translucent and delicate.
“Who—what—” Aria whispered.
“I am Lysara,” the figure said in a melodic voice. I’ve been watching you. You are… learning quickly. But there’s danger, and you will need guidance.
Zara’s jaw dropped. “It talks… inside our heads?”
“Yes,” Lysara replied. I am a guardian. I protect knowledge and teach those who are chosen. You, Aria, and your friends… are among the chosen.
Aria’s pulse quickened. “Chosen? What does that mean?”
You have broken the veil, Lysara said. And that makes you visible to creatures that usually remain hidden. Some will help you. Some will harm you. Trust is essential.
Training Begins
Leo handed each of them a glowing crystal. “These amplify your energy and protect you,” he explained. “Lysara will guide you on how to use them.”
The small guardian floated over to Aria, touching her hand lightly. A spark of golden light traveled up her arm, making her fingers tingle.
“Focus,” Lysara said. Feel the energy. Let it flow, don’t force it.
Aria concentrated, and a soft golden barrier formed around her hand. It pulsed faintly, almost alive.
“Nice,” Leo said. “Now, Zara. Same thing. Don’t be afraid.”
Zara’s crystal glowed, and a small sphere of protective light surrounded her. Even Mina had to admit she was impressed as her own shield shimmered faintly.
Tension and Secrets
After training, the group gathered around Lysara.
“There is more you need to know,” the guardian said. The veil is thinning faster than usual. The wardens are aware of your presence. Some creatures are testing you deliberately.
Mina’s smirk faded. “Wardens… again? How fast are they?”
Faster than you think, Lysara said. And one of your own may not be what they seem.
Aria’s stomach dropped. “One of us?”
The guardian didn’t answer. Instead, it floated toward the ceiling, fading into the light.
Leo’s gaze was sharp. “We’ll find out soon enough. For now, learn, protect each other, and stay alert.”
The black cat leapt onto Aria’s shoulder, silver eyes glowing. It purred, but somehow the sound felt like a warning.
Aria swallowed. This is bigger than school, bigger than creatures… bigger than any of us expected.
And she knew: nothing would ever be normal again.
