Vesper’s attack

Eve’s POV “Mummy!” Jameson ran towards me, and I dropped to my knees just in time to catch him as he flung himself into my arms. I sniffed his familiar natural baby lotion scent and ruffled his hair as I laughed and hugged him close to me. “Hey, my little pumpkin. Did you miss me?" “Yes, mummy. I missed you so much.” His voice was muffled against my shoulder as he clung to me. “I’ve missed you too, my sweet. I’m here now.” I whispered, planting a kiss on his forehead as I withdrew myself from the hug a little and watched his face that beamed with pure, innocent joy. “Huh. I can see that someone is so focused on their mummy that they are forgetting that I exist.” Jade’s jealous words came as she huffed in distaste while Jameson and I laughed at her dramatic behaviour. “Welcome home, my Luna.” Carlisle greeted me as she came up beside Jamison. I extended a small smile to her in response. “Thank you, Carlisle. And thank you for taking good care of my son.” “It’s my duty, my Luna.” She bowed her head to me in respect, and Jameson tugged at my hand. “Let’s have lunch, mummy. The chefs made delicious food for you!” I chuckled at his thoughtfulness. “Well, aren’t you the sweetest little thing?” I turned my head to Jade. “Come on. Let’s go have something to eat. I’ve missed the chefs’ food.” Together, we made our way to the dining table and had our meal. Jameson wouldn’t shut up for a second as he went on and on, talking animatedly about everything he had been up to in his head. He spoke about school, Carlisle’s care, and all the adventures he had created in his mind. Thankfully, he did not mention anything about the other kids taunting him and calling him a bastard son. That was a good thing because I wasn’t sure for how long I could keep my cool about Jameson’s bullying any longer. “Jameson, table manners.” Jade threw him a subtle, warning glare with a side eye, and he finally shut up. “Okay, aunt Jade. I’m sorry.” “Good boy.” Jade smiled at him and ruffled his hair gently. “Now, eat up and enjoy your meal.” Later that night, while Jade was up in her room, getting her nighttime skincare routine done and rewinding for the night, I helped Jameson get ready for bed. I tucked him in snugly, sitting beside him as he snuggled under his blankets. “Mummy, can you read me a story?” He asked me as he yawned, his eyes already growing heavy with sleep. I chuckled at this. No matter how sleepy Jameson got, he would never forget our bedtime story tradition. “Of course, sweetie.” I said softly and then pulled out a storybook from the shelf. It was his favourite that I had read to him countless times before. “Once upon a time...” I began to read, and by the time I was done a few minutes later, his eyes had fluttered shut, and he was now sound asleep. A smile crossed my lips as I watched his sleepy face. At that moment, Stefan’s face flashed through my vision, reminding me of how much alike the both of them looked. The same intense grey eyes. The same sharp jawlines and well-defined facial structure. The same jet black hair. Jameson looked exactly like the younger version of Stefan, and in a way, that scared me. What if anyone could be able to tell that Jameson was Stefan’s son just by looking at their faces? What if I would not be able to hide this secret forever and Jameson gets taken away from me? I shook my head at the thought. No. I would keep hiding Jameson from Stefan and from anyone who was related to Stefan. No other person but me and Jade would ever find out the truth. With my mind made up, I leaned in and kissed Jameson softly on the forehead. “Goodnight, my little pumpkin.” Standing up quietly, I turned off the light, leaving the door slightly open before making my way to my room. Already exhausted from the stress of the past few days, I collapsed immediately onto the bed with a sigh escaping my lips. “Home sweet home.” A small smile graced my lips next as I closed my eyes and allowed myself to sink into the warm embrace of a goodnight sleep. But that peace did not last for long. “The packhouse is under attack! The packhouse is under attack! The enemies have breached the perimeter!” The terrified, high pitched screaming of one of the guards outside immediately the pack house jolted me awake. “The pack house is under attack! Get the Luna and the prince to safety now!” The screaming continued, and my heart began to race fast as I sat up, alert and afraid. My eyes glanced at the wall clock in the room. It was 3 am midnight. The pack house under attack by this time of the night? Was I in some kind of nightmare? Amidst the commotion outside, a frantic pounding came upon my door, followed by Jade’s panicked voice. “Eve! Eve! Wake up! There’s trouble! You have to leave now!” “Jade?” I whispered to myself and immediately got up from the bed and rushed to the door, pushing it open at once. I was greeted by the sight of Jade’s fear-stricken face. “What’s going on?” “The pack house is under attack, led by Vesper and his men. We need to get you to safety now.” “Jameson.” My heart began to beat even faster now as fear clouded me. “I have to get Jameson.” Without a second thought, I rushed down the hallway towards Jameson’s room, my heart racing and my pulse pounding in my ears. Vesper was obviously here because of one thing. To overthrow me. And to overthrow me, he would need to get my son and I out of the way. Jameson was in great danger as much as I was. I had to get to him before Vesper does. And fast.
