The air at the docks still reeked of salt, rust, and blood. The Romano family had sent a message both loud and clear traitors don’t last long. Dario’s body slumped to the ground inside the shipping container, blood pooling beneath him. Sofia wiped Marco’s gun barrel down with a black cloth and tucked it back into his holster. She didn’t say anything there was nothing to say. Marco stood frozen, looking at the body. He had squeezed the trigger, closed the book on Dario’s life. And yet, he felt nothing.
