As is usual for mobile phones, his phone used to display the phone calls made over a day under the heading as day of the week for the calls made over past one week and for calls made over day that was more than a week ago, the heading used to be in the form of the date. When he opened his phone-book to find Somu’s number in the dialed list he had no idea that the phone would give remove his doubts regarding the truth of his consciousness that the previous day had actually been part of future rather than being part of the past.
Once he noticed the date mentioned as the heading for the calls made a week ago, he got the shock of his life. And he madly began sliding the screen further to see further dates and he had to get convinced that what he was seeing was actually happening. He could not ignore it any further as a game his sub-conscious mind was playing with him. Not that he had discarded it earlier as a mere figment of imagination, but his mind was tilted to believe that it was not something that he would finally have to believe. He had urged desperately to be able to reject it as a mere nightmare that had had stronger influence on his mind than any other he had experienced through his life.
The first date he noticed was 21 September 2025. If the phone-book was to be believed, he had made the last calls on 28 September 2025. And, he had been making a few calls quite regularly but he had not made any call to either of his best friends for more than a month. He had kept on checking the recent calls made over the past one month, rather over a month in future that seemed to be his recent past now, but neither Somu nor Jacky appeared in any of these calls. If he had somehow lived in the year 2025 already, was he going to lose his friends in the coming future? Would he no more be close enough to his friends to talk to them regularly?
There it was, finally! He could finally see Somu’s name in the calls made on 21 August 2025. The confusion was now too torturing to deal with it any further. So, he decided to go on calling his friends over. He called Somu, and then Jacky. It was good that it was a Sunday. Neither of them had to go to the office and both agreed to come over. They would reach in about an hour. Despite all the stress he was feeling, he decided to give his mind some rest in the meanwhile. He got up and began preparing tea for himself. The mind was again and again getting deflected to the confusion all the things had caused. However, he had made up his mind to not give any conscious thought to all that confusion till both his friends were here. He sat on the sofa, turned the TV on and began sipping his tea.
