“Well, good luck getting your proof,” she said, and the two wandered off, fingers just barely touching. Rob roamed the library while he let the time pass a little. He wanted Trish and Julie’s presence gone before he started asking questions of Ned. While the minutes dragged by he took footage of the room, the vintage books on the shelves, the decanter on the little table off to the side. The firelight flickering over everything made the atmosphere old, perhaps a little eerie. Rob suspected the books had been selected for how they looked and not because Dane read them—not solely because he’d met Dane, but also because they didn’t seem to have much rhyme or reason in topic or genre. Still, two full walls held floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, and the one with the fireplace had shelves flanking
