Chapter 2: Guardians

And suddenly walked towards me. As they slowly moved forward, I slowly moved backwards. Then they made a sudden stop. There were a few seconds silence before one of them spoke. 

"Ohhhhhhh! She can see us!? She totally looked into our eyes just now, yahh? Right Ami?" he said while looking at his companion and being amazed by the situation. 

"Be quiet for a minute Marmog. She looks very confused right now, well so as we anyways" she said while looking perplexed. 

The two of them were talking to each other while I was still sitting on the floor coping up on what is happening. While they were talking to each other, I finally spoke up. 

"Um, may I know who are you? Or yet to say, what are you?" I asked and they looked at each other. 

"Should we cast the memory loss spell on her?" asked Marmog to Ami. 

I flinched when they said memory loss spell. "Memory loss spell? Wait as in magic? Just who are they." I thought to myself. 

"No, not yet. Contact headquarters first and let's wait for their command" Ami replied to Marmog. 

"Oki doki" Marmog replied back and headed in proceeding in calling this so called headquarters. 

"Ok, first of all. Ms. Clara? Can you stand up and sit down in the coach? I guess we have a lot of explaining to do" Ami said while reaching out her hand towards me. 

I grab her hand hesitantly and stood up and we walk towards the couch. We sat and a few seconds I calmed down. There were a few seconds of silence when suddenly the Marmog guy returned from his call. The conversation started as he sat down. 

"Okay, first of all let us introduce ourselves. You start Marmog" the Ami girl stated. 

"Okayyy. Hello, I'm Marmog. A devil guardian. Well specifically your devil guardian! Ok you're next Ami" he said with energetic vibe. 

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you Clara. I am Ami, an angel guardian. Your angel guardian. Is there anything else you need clarification?" Ami said with a pleasing and bright smile. 

"Well of course I have a lot of questions! I don't even know where to start! And your halo, it's so blinding" A lot of questions came into my mind and before I spoke, Marmog spoke. 

"Hey Ami! Clara here is being blinded by your halo. Told ya that thing is bright" he said while pointing at her halo. 

"Oh I'm sorry Ms. Clara. Let me just hide it for now" Ami apologized and then snapped her fingers and her halo disappeared. 

"Um sorry but how did you know about that the halo was bothering me?" I finally spoke. "Oh, I just read yer mind" he said so innocently like it was no big a deal. 

"Eh? Read my mind?" I said while looking confused. 

"Ya! We have that kind of power" he proclaimed and that was not helping me to fully understand the situation I am in right now. 

"Uh sorry but I am having a hard time coping with all of this. Could you please start from the beginning? Like why do I have guardians and stuff?" I asked all confused. 

"Marmog, any news from the headquarters?" Ami asked and Marmog replied by shaking his head. 

"This is rather rare event for us, ya know? No human had ever saw our physical form. There are times they would see smudges of light and darkness but not our whole form" Marmog stated. 

Then all of a sudden, Ami gasped and looked at me worriedly. She then whispered to her companion while slightly glancing at my direction. 

After they finished their whisperings, Ami stood up and went behind me and said, "Well, I don't think we can tell you the reasons yet but what I do know is if you don't hurry now you'll be late for school". 

Ami proclaimed as she set her hands unto my shoulders. I then looked at the clocked that was hanging on the wall and as I realized the time I rushly got up and went to the bathroom for a quick shower and as I finished showering I went to the other room which was my closet and got dressed for school. As I grabbed the door Ami suddenly stops me and said, "Clara, whatever happened inside this room must not come out to other people. Ok?" 

"It's not like anybody's going to believe me, but ok". I opened the door and went downstairs to the dining area.

"What now?" Marmog asks. 

"I don't know. She's not supposed to see us." Ami replied. 

"Well obviously not. Humans are not supposed to see us ya know?" Marmog proclaimed. 

"Remember what our superiors said? Each kingdom will have a human that will be able to see and interact with us. And in this kingdom it was supposed to be a human male whose age is 23. Was there a system error perhaps? What's Destiny doing?" Ami stated looking concerned. 

"Should we go to headquarters to know what to do?" Marmog asked. 

"Have they read your message yet?" Ami responded with a question. 

"No, not yet. Those punks must be busy ya know?" Marmog replied. 

"Somethings not quite right, they usually reply in an instance" Ami thought to herself. 

"Delete the message you sent Marmog. Let's just wait and see what will happen. Something just doesn't add up" Ami said to her devil companion. Marmog did as to what she said and deleted the message.

At the Aurum High School, I slowly fast walk in the corridor to prevent being called out by a teacher. When suddenly, I heard someone calling my name from behind, as I turned around, it was my childhood friend, Hannah Locke. 

"Clara~ what's the rush? And wait, why are you in school anyways? You don't have classes today." She stated. I completely forgot because of all the commotion this morning. 

"Hey Hannah. Guess I forgot my schedule for today hehe" I laughed awkwardly. Not like I could tell her the sudden appearance of an angel and devil inside my bedroom. 

"You? You forgot your schedule? Are you ok? You're not sick are you? The serious and organize Clara forgot her schedule" she said as she touch my forehead to check my temperature as she continue her ranting of to take care of myself more. 

"I am fine Hannah. I just overlooked the date. But I am fine" I said and suddenly the bell rang for the students first period. 

"Ack! That's the first bell! I'll see you later Clara! I'll contact you later. Don't mute your phone again so I can reach you!" Hannah shouted as she ran towards her classroom.

I left my school and decided to go home and go back to my room. 

"Now then. I know you can hear me. Ami. Marmog. I think you have some explaining to do" I said with a commanding voice. 

The sparkling angel and the overwhelming devil suddenly popped out at my back, floating in mid-air. 

"Yes we are here~~" Marmog said with a yawning voice. 

"Can I ask again regarding this whole situation?" I asked. 

"Sure sure~ right Ami?" Marmog stated. 

"We can answer as many questions as you want. But please do remember that there are those we cannot answer because of our law" Ami proclaimed with a serious and calm tone. 

My mind is just filled with thoughts on how they exists and what law do they abide in. My curiosity and learning self is at its peak. 

"Ok first of all. What exactly is this whole guardian thing? Why does it exist?" I asked eagerly and with a momentous expression. 

"Guardians exists to guide you in your journey. We help you think through your decisions to what is good or bad. The light and dark keep your daily life into balance" Ami stated. 

"Then if so, isn't it enough that the angels only exists since they are the good ones?" I asked. 

Then suddenly Marmog spoke in an outburst anger. "Arghhhh~~!! You humans always say that~~ It's really frustrating ya know!" He shouted childishly with a slight tear in his eyes. 

"Now now Marmog. She's only asking. 

"Well, it is true that goodness must prevail. But what good it will be when one person will be too nice?" Ami stated. 

"Humans often say that it is bad to be selfish and they should always think about others first before themself. But there's this term called self-care. Caring and looking after yourself is not called selfish, although there are times it can be mistaken. Also, being too nice will get you into a situation where people will take advantage of you. If you are too kind, you will take so much responsibilities that your mental and physical state will not be able to handle. Humans that are too kind will only be dragged down to their defeat someday. And that's where devil guardians comes in. As you know, they are known for as selfish and greedy creatures. We take those traits and combine it with the angels nice and goodness traits to make a balanced life for the humans" Ami added to her statements. 

"That's right, that's right! If one of us lacks, there will be chaos in the society you live in" Marmog proclaimed with a proud and loud voice. 

"I never thought of it that way. Well, maybe I did. I only did what other people tells me to. Well they love me enough to tell me to take care of my health. So I guess it is balance?" I stated as I sat down in the couch and pulling my legs together to meet my face. 

"Ya do know you're not balance, right? Your decisions also affects our powers. Since you are too good, angel here has been consuming all that energy into herself and I have oh so little for myself! The larger our horns the powerful we are. For angels, the brighter their halo, the stronger they are." Marmog exclaimed as he points his quite small horns. 

"Ohhh sorry about that" I slightly laughed as Marmog's eyes were quite teary. 

"I can imagine if darkness prevail. There would be a lot of murders, killings, theft and other unfortunate events. But besides the ones you mentioned earlier when too much goodness prevail, what other harm can it be done? I don't think it's dangerous though." I asked as I looked up to them to see their expressions with slight discomfort. 

"If a human believes too much in their goodness, they would make their own judgements on what's right and wrong. They would only believe on their own beliefs and values for they know they are the ultimate goodness. They would force someone to believe their own judgements without knowing the other persons perspective. If all fails, that human may resort to killing the other individual for their so called self-justice. Sometimes being good is not good at all." 

As I heard what the angel said, my mind went blank to the possible harm the goodness can do. My eyes widened and my breath stopped for a moment and started thinking how that is possible, when suddenly Marmog spoke. 

"There is always a bad in the good. There is always a good in the bad. There are also just pure evil and good. And finally, we have the balanced life of good and bad. Neglect it, and someday it will explode. The human body won't be able to take much pressure of it". 

There was a few seconds of silence before Ami started to talk again. 

"Are you able to understand the guardian's system Ms. Clara?" She asked as she smiled at me sweetly. 

"Yes thank you for explaining. Although I still have a few questions to ask. Is it ok?" I asked with a slight nervous smile. 

"What's your world called? How do your systems work? Like, I thought angels and devils always fought? Do ghost exists and other mythical creatures? Do you all live in the same place? And –" my words were cut off all of a sudden by Marmog 

"Stop~~ Stop~~! One at a time Clara. Your curiosity is really leaking out right now" he was slightly floating as he said those words while also laughing sweetly as he was entertained by my behavior. Ami also let out a slight grin and laugh before she spoke. 

"Well let's see, first of all. Our universe is called the Realm of Aquarion. In Aquarion, our divine leader is what you all know as God. The only ones who were able to see him is the 10 Aquarion's Council. Every council has their second-in-command. Those second-in-commands are called Epoptis. They are the one in charge of all the angel and devil guardians. Well to be precise, 5 of them handles the guardian departments. The rest of the 5 handles other jobs like keeping track of souls in Aquarion, helping ghost and spirit do their jobs, keeping things in order in the residence of souls and ghost, handling the realm's food supply and necessities" Ami explained as if their world is the same as the human world. 

"Aquarion sounds much like the human world. Well except with angels and devils and souls. But what do you mean ghost and souls residence?". 

"When a human dies, where do you think they go? They would reside for the mean time in Aquarion. That is why one of the 5 remaining Epoptis handles their residence and well-being before they get reincarnated. Ghost and other creatures also reside with the human souls. But they are usually in different streets. But all of them get along with each other ya know." Marmog further explained. 

"You also said they handle the realm's food. What do they eat? I thought you guys are basically like immortal?" I asked. 

"Well yes we are basically immortal. But we do need energy to keep us going. We also get hurt and can get exhausted, that is why we need food. Our food source are the human's emotions. The positive and happier the human emotion, the more delicious and healthier it is. If we lack human emotion and energy, we tend to shrink and turn into a child" Ami explained. 

"And that is why miss princess, the guardian's job is essential. We guide humans to have a healthy, balance and happy life. You humans live a happy life and we beings benefit from it" Marmog added with a smirk in his face. 

"Oh then what about Angels and Devils? You said the humans need both guardians to have a stable life right? But what about the other creatures?" I asked. 

"Well, when a human dies, their traits while they were still alive will be forever be with them even in Aquarion. That's why their former guardians don't need to worry about them" Ami explained. 

"Then what about the two of you? Since you both are the Angel and Devil" I asked further. 

"Oh, our personalities are not quite balanced, but it is not destructive. But due to the superiors decisions and worries, they have decided that the pair of guardians should always be with one another. To prevent any mishaps" Ami added. 

"Yah, and that's why I am stuck with this uptight and strict angel" Marmog complained while pointing at the angel. 

"Oh please, I am the one who had it hard. You and your mess all over the house!" Ami talked back. They started arguing pointless topics. They seemed really close even though they were arguing.

While they were arguing, someone knocked at my door and the two made a stop with their arguments. It was our maid. 

"Miss Clara, the mistress is asking you at her study at once" She said. 

"Ok, thank you for informing me. I'll be there in a minute" I replied then she left. 

"Well, I have to go" I said while looking at the two beings. 

"Oh ok! Call us when ya need us!" Marmog stated and he suddenly disappears into thin air. Ami looked at me and slightly bowed her head before also suddenly disappearing. 

"You guys are still there right?" I asked. 

"Yes, we are still here. We're just inside your consciousness, so you will only be hearing our voices." Ami proclaimed and I felt safe for some reason.

I went out of my room and started walking towards my mothers' office. I still had quite a few questions left to ask, but decided to let it wait.

 Little do I know, that was the last time I would be asking in peace.
