Chapter 6: The Dancer's Performance

838 Words
There was no way to escape, so we had to prepare for the performance. Fortunately, the madam still hoped for our show and didn't t*****e us much, only tied us up to intimidate us. I checked my clothes; the special suit was still there, and the items from the 21st century that Long Dan carried were also present. I sighed in relief. We both took off our bras in silence. From now on, we had to part ways with our female identities. I couldn't find the words to describe my feelings. I asked Long Dan, “Do you think we can ever change back?” Long Dan thought for a moment, “Since we could turn into men, we should be able to turn back into women, right?” I kept reassuring myself: we can definitely turn back into women! With the performance time approaching, we scrutinized the costumes sent by the madam, feeling more and more troubled. Although Long Dan had great artistic talent, she had never learned classical dance, let alone dances from the Shen Zhui kingdom. I was completely clueless. An idea suddenly struck me: “That old man said we just need to please the audience. Why not perform modern dance? They might find it novel and be entertained!” Long Dan frowned but agreed, “That’s all we can do. Our lives are more important. Let’s try it!” We rehearsed briefly and decided on a quickstep cha-cha. When the moment arrived, we walked out from backstage and were stunned: the audience was all women, of all ages and appearances. Why were there no men? I wondered. Suddenly, I recalled some ancient tombs of the Shen Zhui kingdom we had excavated: hardly any had male corpses! Could it be that we had come to a world dominated by women? No time to think. Seeing us, the crowd buzzed with excitement. Judging by their expressions, they seemed thrilled. I glanced at Long Dan, stunned: in her ancient costume, she looked breathtakingly beautiful, bringing me back to the 21st century. She was the incomparable beauty I remembered. The audience must have been marveling at Long Dan’s beauty. Long Dan nudged me, holding out her hand. I took it like an automaton, and she whispered, “Do you want to live or not?” Startled, I quickly got into position. “Don’t lose focus, follow me!” Long Dan commanded firmly. I indicated my readiness, and Long Dan began our cha-cha. Her artistic talent shone through, drawing me into the enchanting world of dance. I felt light as a feather, immersed in the moment, my worries about being male forgotten. Despite the lack of music, Long Dan kept perfect rhythm. We completed the dance flawlessly, her internal metronome guiding us. I had never danced with Long Dan before, usually partnering with men. But this dance made me realize those men were nothing compared to Long Dan. Hand in hand, we faced the silent crowd, unsure of what to expect. During the dance, I sensed something amiss. The madam’s anxious face kept appearing backstage, glaring at us. When I glanced at her, her expression was furious, her chest heaving. I looked at the audience: the women stared at us with open mouths, captivated. The madam stormed onto the stage, her face changing to a smile as she bowed to the crowd, “Sorry, everyone! These boys are new and don’t know the rules. Please forgive their poor performance!” Then she turned to us with a fierce look, “I’ll deal with you two later!” Her sweet voice from before had vanished, replaced by a motherly menace. I shivered, remembering the dreadful t*****e devices in the basement. I clutched Long Dan’s hand, on the verge of tears, “Long Dan, we’re doomed! She means it.” Long Dan remained calm, “Relax...” Suddenly, the audience rose, applauding wildly. I couldn’t hear Long Dan over the noise. Several women climbed onto the stage, shouting, “Great! Autograph! Autograph!” At first, I didn’t understand, but then it clicked. It was like a celebrity frenzy! The madam was pushed aside by the crowd, and ten burly men, led by Old Seven, rushed in to shield us. The women brandished weapons, their blades glinting. The men dodged and shouted, “Please don’t push! We’ll organize this!” Watching the chaos, I realized we had won them over and become stars. We needed to capitalize on this. I shouted, “We’ll sign autographs! One at a time, please line up!” The crowd quieted. I was stunned by the sudden order. Long Dan spoke, “Everyone, please line up over here. We’ll sign for everyone, I promise!” She wore an elegant, enchanting smile, making a graceful gesture. The women obediently lined up. Once again, I was amazed by Long Dan’s charm! With the crowd orderly, I whispered to Long Dan, “Are we really signing? What names?” She replied, “We stick to our real names!”
