When I was finished eating it, I called Wendy back and apologized for brushing her off so quickly. “So, are you still busy tonight?” she asked. “No, but to be honest, I’ve had a rough day and just want to get an early night’s sleep,” I lied. “Darn, I was really looking forward to seeing you.” “How about a rain-check?” “Sure,” she said, still sounding disappointed. “I’m sorry, darlin’,” I said, staring up at the clock.
