MARIA POV The moment we stepped into the gym, the familiar sounds of basketballs hitting the court and sneakers squeaking on the floor echoed around us. "Relax, Fairy Tooth. We’re just dropping off coffee and saying hi. No need to puff out your chest," I teased, holding up the drink tray with two steaming black coffees for my boys. Sam just grunted, his protective instincts apparently kicking into overdrive. The gym was split in two: on one side, the basketball team was running drills, shooting hoops with the kind of effortless grace that made it look easy; on the other side, the cheerleaders were starting their warm-ups, stretching and chatting as they prepared for their routines.
