Following my GPS, I drive as fast as I can. I sure hope Kaylee and her friends are safe until I get there! I can see Mathieu following me close behind. I know I need someone’s help tonight. Even if it’s his. I don’t know how many of Kaylee’s friends I’ll bring back with me. I’ll deal with my issues with him later.
Finally arriving at my destination, I get out of my jeep, looking around for the girls. Mathieu park’s next to me. Walking around his truck to join me.
“DO you know where she is? Your daughter?” He asks, looking around too.
“I’m not sure. I told her to stay outside. I’ll give her a call.” Taking out my cell phone, I dial her number and wait. Suddenly, I hear a ring close by the tree’s edge.
“That Kaylee’s ring tone!” I say, running in the ringtone direction.
“Kaylee!” I yell out, seeing her crouched on the ground holding Mackenzie in her arms, still unconscious.
“Mom!” She cries out, seeing me arrive. “I’m so sorry… It’s all my fault, I’m sorry…” She keeps repeating. “I lied! I lied to you, I’m sorry mom!”
I take a deep breath, trying to stay calm not to panic the girls more than they already are.
“We’ll talk about it later. Now tell me, do you know what kind of drugs she was given?” I ask, putting my hand on Mackenzie’s forehead. s**t, she feels really warm…
“No, I don’t know, Bree?” Kaylee asks her other friends.
“I’m not sure. I think it might be Ruffy, or maybe it’s that new thing going around making you compliant to have s…” She cuts off her word with a disgusted look on her face. This sounds like such a disgusting thing for young boys to do. I’m getting furious just thinking about what could have happened to her if Kaylee didn’t get her out in time! I’ve known these girls since kindergarten. It makes me sick thinking some little b***h boy would hurt any of them!
Turning to Mat, he’s looking at me intensely. I turn back to the girls. I count 9 of them around me.
“Are you the only girl here?” I ask looking at them in turn.
“Yes, mom. When we noticed Mackenzie started to act and feel weird, we all came out to hide.” Feeling myself relaxed just a tiny bit. I look back at Mat.
“Can you gently put her in my jeep, please? We need to get her to the hospital right now.”
Stepping forward, he gently picks her up, following my instruction and putting her in the jeep.
“Now the rest of you girl are going to be divided into my jeep and Mat’s truck. We’ll all meet up at the hospital. She needs medical attention now.” Seeing none of them move, I slightly raise my voice.
“Now girl! Get moving!” As they all rush to the vehicles, I step in mine and dive off when they’re all in and buckled up.
The drive to the hospital feels like it is taking hours and not just mere minutes. I can hear all the girls silently sobbing in their seats. I have to take deep breaths to stay calm. How can this have happened?
While driving, I had called 911 letting them know what happened and that I was on my way. Arriving at the emergency doors, there are already nurses waiting outside with a gurney to take care of Mackenzie.
Following them in, we’re directed in a private waiting room since we are a large group. Since this situation involves minors, the police were also contacted. Each girl, in turn, gives their account of what happened at that party.
Thanking the officers, I sit down and start calling all the other parents to let them know what happened. Most of them came to the hospital quickly. But some of the other parents were out of town, or on a business trip. So, I offered to take them in while they’re away.
Four hours later, we can leave the hospital. Mackenzie’s out of danger, the police took all the girl’s statement and when to bust down that party. I sure hope they find that little s**t responsible for this!
Getting all the girl in the jeep, I turn to see Mat next to me.
“Are you on?” He asks, trying to put his hand on my shoulder. I take a step back, not ready to open that door just yet.
“I’m fine,” I say, not quite believing my own words.
“Do you want me to follow you home? Make sure you get there ok?” He asks looking a little hurt by my backing away from his touch.
“No, thank you. I’m ok. We’re ok. I’ll just get the girl to bed, they need some rest after everything that happened tonight.” As I turn around to get in my jeep, I stop, turning back to him. “Thank you for your help.” Is all I manage to say to him before leaving.
Still feeling my heart pounding in my chest. I know I’ll have to deal with all my pent-up feeling soon, but tonight’s not the night.
