MAETHYS POV Today, I started training. It had been two days since we returned. The trail had gone cold at another river. It felt as if the land itself conspired to swallow footprints and scent alike. I’d never realized just how much water lived in this area—how many veins of it ran through the trees, how easily a current could erase proof that anyone had ever been there at all.
