He looks at the silent table before noticing a new server behind the counter. 'Where's the ginger thing gone?' Death asks.
'His mum came to pick him up. He had finished his shift,' Fear comments.
Death looks at Love, who is watching his wife and son confused, before looking at his sister. 'What is it?'
'Nothing,' Life says.
'Nothing?!' Love exclaims.
Life ignores her husband, watching her brother. 'I'm sorry.'
Before Death can ask, he appears by a car wreck with smoke filling his lungs. 'I'm so going to hit that b***h when I see her next,' Death grumbles. He eyes the car to see the driver stuck in their seat and his heart drops. Immediately he's by the car, cradling her head softly as tears run down his cheeks. 'Juno?' Death whispers in disbelief.
Juno coughs as her eyes take him in surprised. 's**t. Life is a b***h,' Juno mumbles.
'I'll slap her for both of us.'
'Is Kar okay?'
'I'm more concerned about you than the state of the car.'
'Not the vehicle. Kar with a K.'
'What?' Death looks towards the back seat to see the ginger from earlier. 'Ice-cream dude. I thought Fear said that his mum came to pick him up.'
'Oops, I was pregnant when I left?' Death looks at Juno in disbelief. 'Look after him.' his eyes go to the unconscious adult in the backseat. 'I know you can. Tell them both sorry.' Juno steals Death's attention by grabbing his jaw and placing a kiss on his lips.
Death barely manages to get Karmi to safety before the car explodes.
He glances back at the adult on the couch to notice him waking up.
'Why are we at Aunt Li's house?' Karmi asks before looking at his clothes. His eyes dart to Death's eyes, noticing that the male had been crying and the smears of blood on his face. 'Mum?'
'The car blew up, I was only able to get you out,' Death whispers, wiping at his eyes when tears start.
'No, she has to be okay.'
'She wasn't, it's why I was there to save you.'
'What is this racket?' Fear asks as he appears in the doorway. 'Uncle? Why are you crying? What's happened to Hope?'
'Nothing happened to Hope, where's your mother?' Death asks.
Love appears confused. 'She's in her office,' Love whispers before looking at Karmi and putting the dots together. 'Juno?' Death shakes his head. 'Honey!' Love yells making Fear wince.
Life manifests in the room before noticing Karmi watching her with wide eyes. 'Oops,' Life mumbles.
'You sent him to his own mate's death?! How the f**k could you do that?!'
'Wait, mate as in soulmate?' Karmi asks confused. 'How are you mum's soulmate?'
'I may look twenty-five like those two but trust me, we aren't. Your mum would have been fine if she stayed with me but she didn't. I'm your father like I am Hope's,' Death explains. 'I'm also Death. That's Life, Love and Fear.'
'What does that make me if I survived?'
'Karma,' Life explains.
He looks at her in disbelief. 'What?' Death grits out.
'He's Karma. Indirectly caused everything that's ever-' Life's sentence is cut off when Death slaps her.
'You never thought to tell me for twenty-two years?!'
Life retaliates with her own slap. 'You shouldn't have let her leave so easily! You should have found a way to find out about her life!'
'She left in the middle of the night after drugging me! And somehow, you magically kept dragging me away whenever I tried. What a coincidence.' Death's head tilts. 'How else would she know about that specific knockout unless another immortal told her and gave it to her. Seeing as you see people's fate, how wrong am I?'
'You aren't wrong.'
Love doesn't stop Death as he slaps her again. 'How dare you. You're not even sorry. How could you drag your family into this?'
Life ducks her head. 'I tried keeping you all safe. She was being threatened.'
'I was sorting it. You never ask before doing s**t!'
'It didn't seem-'
'Just because it didn't seem like it, doesn't mean nothing was happening as I was helping him,' Love says, cutting his wife off. He goes to Karmi, settling his hair. 'We'll get you cleaned up and home with your dad. Hope will be welcoming. Okay? You'll be fine with him.'
'Would I still be able to see mum?' Karmi asks.
Death nods, sitting beside Karmi. 'Yeah,' Death whispers.
'Okay.'
