Charlotte
I couldn't stop thinking about Charles after he left. There was no way he has feelings for me but I couldn't help but feel like he does. I know that I am probably overthinking it because I want him to but deep down I know that he doesn't. He's in love with somebody else.
I barely slept the night. So when morning came, I just quickly took a shower and went down the stairs. I didn't think anyone would be down yet.
When I went down, the house was quiet, no one was there. That's when I noticed the garden. It was a big garden with a lot of different kinds of flowers. In the middle was a big water fountain. There were birds chirping and a pond where fishes swam. I have never seen a garden like this.
The view was beautiful, the sun was starting to rise. I went over to the wooden swing and decided to sit down. I can imagine Charles sitting there when he was younger.
I have only known him since High School started because even though I had always been here, Charles just came in high school and the only reason he came here was because it was the best high school in Avenport.
I can't believe I didn't know who he was earlier. I mean his house was big but only now did I realize that I had barely seen the whole thing. The Denver Family was one of the most famous aristocratic families of all time. I have heard of the name many times before but I didn't know Charles's Denver was like The Denver.
I stare at the beautiful sunrise. The blue sky with the small yellow yolk of the sun in the distant sky is completed by the birds flying past the now almost orange sky.
To think such a beauty could be seen in one's backyard.
I suddenly felt someone's presence by my side.
Charles
I was taking a walk in the garden as I always do when I am in my grandparent's place, when I saw Charlotte sitting there on the swing. She didn't notice me so I just stood there staring at her. She was beautiful, admiring the sunrise while I was admiring her, how the sun shone brightly on her face lighting it up. The look of adoration on her face, if only she could look at me like that.
But then she noticed me. She looked startled for a moment, "Oh, Charles, how long have you been standing there?"
"I just came," I lied. I wasn't about to tell her that I was staring at her for quite a while now.
"Oh, well it's quite beautiful isn't it," she says gesturing to the sunrise.
"Yes," I replied, and let me tell you that it wasn't the sunrise I was talking about.
I came over and sat next to her on the swing. I remember sitting here watching the sunrise and sunset when I was younger, I haven't done it for a while now.
We both gazed at the sun. We used to talk about everything all the time. It feels as if things got awkward between us since...yesterday. But maybe it's just me thinking that, maybe she feels like this is normal.
She then leaned her head on my shoulder, maybe it was normal. But I guess normal would just mean friends, and nothing more. Is it bad I want something more than friends?
Suddenly my phone rang. I fished it out of my pocket to answer it. It was Ally. Charlotte whose head was on my shoulder immediately lifted her head up when she saw her name. I sighed and cursed Ally inwardly for always having the worst timing ever.
I was deciding whether I should take it or not when Charlotte said,
"Aren't you going to take that?"
For some reason, I felt like there was some coldness in her voice.
"Yeah," I muttered. I answered the phone and walked away. I didn't want Charlotte to hear our conversation.
I walked into the house and into my room to talk to her. I don't know why I just didn't feel like talking to her in an open space.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Hi Charles," Ally answered in her sharp pitchy voice.
"Um, so why are you calling this early," I asked.
"I just missed you, is that a problem?"
I sighed, "No, of course not."
"So what are you doing?"
"Just woke up," I lied.
"Good, did you miss me?"
"yep,"
That too was another lie.
"When will you come back?"
"Soon."
"How's Charlotte," Ally's voice rang through the phone again.
Oh right, Charlotte.
I guess I have to find a good time to break up with her soon because I am going to get married to Charlotte.
"She's good," I replied.
I was getting bored of this conversation. I knew my grandparents were going to be awake by now, they usually wake up early. And they usually work a lot.
"And your family?"
"They're good too." It doesn't seem like we have much to talk about.
"Listen, I gotta go. Talk to you later?" I asked hopefully.
"Aww, you got to go already, that's too bad. Don't forget to call me soon."
"I will," I probably won't.
"I miss you,"
"Mmhm, same here, bye." I don't wait for her to answer, I just hung up.
I wasn't in the mood to talk, not to her anyways.
